| About KouKa's feet |
|
|
Hi everyone, Wish you and your lovely birds are in good health. I have some worries regarding my CAG's feet. Kouka has two red areas on the underside of her feet. I think symmetrically found on both feet. Pictures of them are found in my homepage here. It is like the skin is removed or so. I touch those parts but seems she is not in pain or anything. As I told you before here there are no avian vets. So if anyone has any comments or any cure I can perform manually what so ever, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time. |

I think it's horny skin? Does he have perches with varying diameter? |

Try wraping the perch she uses most offten with white surgical tape. Give her a varity of different perches as well. A birds feet are a very dirty part they walk through bird poop and so forth. Any open wonds can be real bad. You need to be extra carefull to keep her cage clean, and maybe wash her feet in anitspect wash of some sort, maybe once a day. Until this problem goes away.

I wonder if this is what's known as "bumble foot", does anyone know?
I've heard of that, but don't really know what it is. |

I've heard of bumble foot in rats. It is usually cause by them walking on bars instead of solid floors. Here's a link I found on it in birds:

WOW! That looks like a great site! I don't have time to look thru it much right now, but I'm saving it to my "faves" list to look thru better later on.
Thanks for that link! |

It is suppose to be mostly for tiels but, a lot of disesase related things affect all birds. The article on heavy metal poisoning is quite shocking; to me at least. |

I have been planing a "simple" outdoor avairy for our birds. I have not found a suitable material.... I can not afford stanless. But with two big macaws in the flock, it can not be light weight... I will not use zinc, that came close to killing Penn at one time, so chain link is out. There is a breeder of Macaws who is part of the rescue group I belong to. So I am going to get with him sometime soon. He has some real big out door flight aviries. |

David,
How is our baby coming along, I have not heard anything from you. Please keep us up to date. We are all concerned when one of us has a problem with his little one...
