bandit is my grey.
a little over a year now and starting to mutter his head off.
yep, he's learning to talk.
he knows quite a few sounds, and is starting on words.
he's spoiled rotten.
i got him for myself, but he bonded with my roomy jer.
he grooms jer, and is so sweet to him... not me tho... not yet, but i have my fingers crossed.
bandit is starting to get more affectionte with me now and isnt drawing blood like he used to...
he lets me scritch him more now outside the cage, and has actually done "nice" beaky things to my hand lately.
thats a big improvement...
he still wont step up for me though. will only let me pick him up off the floor, but now he goes to my shoulder when i pick him up.
more progress...
jer says give bandit time...
the silly bird doesnt hestitate to beg when i'm eating tho, and will come up to me then. lately bandit wants me to hand feed him. jer says not to let him get away with that, cuz i'm a sucker, and bandit knows it, and will use it to his advantage.
smart little bugger...
i do spoil any animal i have, and i guess birds are no acception.
i'm still relatively new to being a bird owner, but jer isnt.
so i'm learning from him, and all you fine folks out there.
i'm learning bandits facial expressions, and body language.
yes, he smiles,i see it in his eyes, and also that ornery look...
i still cave too much tho... yeah i'm a sucker...
but i'll learn...
i can finally eat and not cave in to the begging dog...
maybe i'll learn with bandit too... maybe?
but awwwww thaat look....that cute look, and that little chirp....
how can i resist?

I don't think it's going to hurt to hand feed him a little bit from your plate once in awhile
Birds are flock members & enjoy eating with their flock in the wild. And you & jer are now Bandits flock & I'm sure that sharing a meal with him would be a bonding experience.
I don't like my fids eating most of the foods I eat (I'm not a healthy eater ), so I will some times cook an unsalted portion for them & put it on my plate & share with them that way - they love it
How long have you lived with Bandit? I'm sure you & he will be best of friends in no time! |

we got bandit when he was about 6 mos? from a reputable pet store.
jer lets him eat what we eat, but monitors it, cuz certain things aren't good for him.
jer just doesnt want bandit to get into some bad begging habits, cuz he knows i'll let bandit get away with it.
i guess he doesnt want bandit taking advantage of me. which he does anyway...oops...i spoil every animal or bird that comes to my house...
i probly let them get away with too much, but i cant help it...
you are right we are bandit's flock...what an honor eh?

It is an honor to be accepted as a member of thier family, for a grey this is not given lightly. Consider yourself lucky. I personal know people who have had grey's for years and not able to come close to this honor. Remember that you are dealin with a 5 year old child that remebers everything you do our don't do. And by they way has a beck that can take your finger off if he wants to. But he does not even consider such a thing...You are lucky to have such a creature. So enjoy life with the bird that chose you... and have fun..

I agree birds need boundaries but when it comes to food. I think it's a plus when they will take anything healthy from you. A good way to enhance the diet of a picky eater. Remember they're different from dogs. Dogs don't beg from their moms. Birds do. It's part of being a bird.
