Try to spray her lightly while she is in her cage. I had to do this with Boo in the begining till he got used to it. Hope this helps you! Pam |

I find with my parrots when i spray with a hose or spray bottle, i try to simulate rain by fine misting in the air so it falls from at least a metre from them above until they accept it.there are times now that even though they love to bath that way, they will shy away from it.Jjust like us sometimes we don't feel like it when it's forced on us ,other times we can't wait |

i take sake in the shower with me. at first i took him in on my arm, and brought him under the spray slowly and only for a short while. he seemed to like it, or at least tolerate it, so i got one of those shower perches. and when i got sake he had never been bathed - the girl who had him before me did so little with him... what i do now is he goes on the perch, i shower and then when i am done i turn the spray to light pressure and a bit cooler than i like it and then i swing sake under it. he really likes it - his eyes go all dreamy, and he'll spread his wings repeatedly. i talk him through it and tell him what a good bird he is the whole time. afterwards he likes to sit on my arm and lean against me until he has dried somewhat. he gets a shower probably 6 times a week (every once in a while i am in a hurry and then i don't bring him in there, i don't like to rush while i am working with him). he really likes the shower much better than a spray bottle. i let him get completely drenched most of the time. it really helps with the itchies - it softens the keratin sheaths on the new feathers and he is much more comfortable when he gets his daily shower. one time i didn't shower him for two days and i saw him trying to bathe in his water bowl - THAT was a funny sight, since it is a bit small for a large CAG. he couldn't get all of himself into the bowl but he sure tried to... i've read that drenching your bird with water frequently is really really important. it sure keeps sake in a good mood.

My CAG absolutely hates showers! When I take him in the shower and hold him under the water he screams and freaks out and tries to fly away. So I tried the spray bottle, just misting in the air, not even at him, and he still freakes out. So now I provide him with a bath with shallow water, and he takes baths, but I know drenching showers are essential for good health. How can I get him to tolerate showers?

I have 2 cags, one loves the showers with the mister and the other hates it. I am just taking it slow with Sam, after he has fussed for a while he settles down and actually starts to enjoy the mist. I would just take it very slow. |

Hi Shirin, is there any possibility to slowly introduce him to showering? Just put him on a chair next you, when you're showering. Don't have him under the shower, just let him watch.
Then pretend you have lots and lots of fun under the shower.
Perhaps he'll join in?
It worked with quite some friends whose birds hated showers.. |

Thanks for the advice I did bring him in the bathroom a couple of times and let him watch me have a shower, but he just flew off his perch and went straight for the door.. hehe. I guess I just have to keep being patient. Another thing I've tried is using the spray bottle with my LBs in front of him. They love it and he sees them enjoying themselves. Hopefully soon he'll want to join in.

Hi Shirin,
can I ask what your response was to him flying off his perch? If you run right at him, you might run the risk he's making a game of it.
Try to distract him prior to stepping up again.. Then praise..
Just be very patient, don't rush. He'll eventually like it and else: The steam is good for him too.. |

hi Sue!
Today I brought him in the bathroom while I was showering and brought a toy too, and he sat on a chair and played with his toy the whole time I was showering. I made sure to be really vocal about how much I was enjoying my shower and I caught him looking at me curiously a few times. I guess I'll do this eveyday until eventually he feels curious enough to want to join in. I'll keep you posted

Hi Shirin,
great idea of bringing a toy in for him!
Sometimes it amazes me how quickly these intelligent creatures adapt to things..
Please don't rush things, just let him watch you for a while.. After some time, you'll probably catch him spreading his wings/ opening his feathers to get some water on it..
I'd be looking forward for any updates! |

my Tschiggo hates it when I try to spray him... but he has found his own solution how to take a bath... I take him into the shower with me.. .put him on top of the shower curtain and then see that that one is liberally wet. Since my curtain doesn't get any direct spray from the shower he soon begins to clamber up and down the curtain, wrap it around himself and gets thoroughly wet that way. He is an absolute sight to behold when he whizzes up and down the curtain... |

Sounds like your Tschiggo is a smart bird, what type of bird is he?That's good to hear your bird thinking for himself like that. |

He is an african grey... when he was a baby and still had his winges clipped from the breeder we usually went for a walk in the wet grass where he took his shower in the grass. Unfortunately I no longer dare to go outside with him... he's taken off four times so far and it was each time a game of hazards to get him back... so... showering on the curtain is it now. |
