| Bird Flu in Parrots. |

I wish to ask about the bird flu symptoms in Parrots (Congo African Greys). If anyone knows, what is the incubation period for bird flu in Greys?? My sweet Congo is with me for 10 days now in Egypt. She is eating very well, getting used to me and started to step on my hand. She wakes down from her cage and comes to me, then I gave her sugary rice with milk. She just sneezes a lot, I think this is because of the small powders and feathers that get into her nares, I see sometime alot of powder and very small white feathers on her head and body (correct me if I am wrong). She talks very well. Says like more than 36 different sentences. She is very inteligent. Comes out of her cage alone and gets into it alone. Makes sounds associated with events. She mostly got no white(cotton like) feathers underneath her grey feathers. Even though, her grey feathers look great. May be this is molting?? Anyway, the only thing that makes me worried is this sneezing. Is it normal in Parrots. And if She is infected with bird flu wouldn't she have shown signs ?? |

I'm not sure about the bird flu symptom in parrots, but in chooks, they become very lethagic, and become listless within 24 hours of symptoms showing up and most likely be dead within 48 hours of it.
I don't think your grey has the flu. She's too active!! |

Oh I forgot to mention.. Parrots don't take to milk too well. They are lactose intolerance.. I would probably advice you to stop giving your grey the milk... on top of that, too much sugar for grey is a no no too.. sorry to be such a pain. |

Hi David. Sneezing doesn't have to mean being sick. SOmetimes they just sneeze because there's dust in their nostrils. Are the nostrils clean? If your grey sneezes all the time, please consult an avian vet.
I highly doubt that this is bird flu! |
