Hi Shirin,

From the sound of your description of the feathers falling out while he's preening, it sounds like he's hit the 'peak' of his molting... well at least that's very true in Apollo's cage. I could be just scratching him and cuddling Apollo, and feathers would just fall out left right and centre!! It was weird to have all these feathers coming out. I guess one other thing you can watch for is in a couple of days, fill for pin feathers around his neck area and other areas where you see feathers falling out.
My fingers are crossed for you and bunny.

Oh as with the change of schedule, Yeah I think it's a good idea that you start slowly changing the schedule with your fids. Hopefully by the time come, they won't be so attached the schedule now. Good luck. I think they'll be fine.

He had a whole bunch of pins around his neck about 4 weeks ago, and they've all opened now. I'll feel for more. Is his change in behaviour due to molting too? He seems extra cranky, and at times really uncooperative. For example sometimes he won't step up (this has just started the past 2 days). I showered him yesterday, he didn't like it, but he tolerated it. I figuerd if he is molting, his skin must be really itchy. He did stop scratching constantly once I showered him.

Thanks for the advice Bih Smile I've been super stressed and I guess extra sensitive recently, so the smallest thing worries me. I'm glad I have my fluffies friends to talk to Smile

Apollo got a bit cranky with me... well alot actually when he was at his peak of his molting. But i guess just keep an eye on him. I know how we can all get so very paranoid when it comes to our fids and their well being!! Smile

Yes, start the routine in short burst's, so when it happens he will except it with little stress. When you leave or come back from school time for example leave the house for ten or more minutes (depending on you and your parrot)Then increase it over 3-4 days by 10 minutes, this way he will except you leaving then get excited when you come back for a birds clock is the time of day not watch..he..he Laughing Smile

Shirin, I've learned that birds, especially greys, are more tempermental during molt. Their skin is itchy and more sensative due to the little vein in their new feathers, they're called blood feathers. They are more likely to become depressed during this stage too almost like they don't feel they're beautiful enough. Tell him how beautiful he is and how pretty his new feathers are. Molting puts a lot of stress on their little systems.
