I don't own a grey but I keep an eye on online boards where people from Australia put ads to sell them such as petlink.com.au/Birds/Advertising_Board/ . They generally seem to cost over $4000 AUD . |

I don't understand AUS currency but in USD my Timneh was $425.00. Normally they sell for $800.00 or more. |

Hi Red Raven..
It isn't the currency, it's the availability! I believe Australia has strict rules about importing (well not importing!) birds, so that's probably why they're so expensive: They all rely on the CAGs being bred in Australia.. |

Red raven... the currency conversion between Australia Dollar (AUD) and the American dollar (USD) is roughly 1AUD to 0.75USD... which means, the African grey would cost somewhere between $3000USD to $6200USD in Australia. Not cheap in comparison to your greys there....
I WANT ONE!!!!! |

WOW!
I had no idea they came so dearly in other parts of the world! I could buy one everyday of the week either through newspaper ads or at bird fairs just here in Oklahoma. Wish there was a way I could help you guys out!

RR, I guess it can be a good thing in a way as this restrict the possibilities of foreign parrots taking over the wild populations living habitat.
Your baby is so adorable!!! I so want one of them... congo or timneh... |

Here in the USA they run an average $1000-1500. If you go to a rescue shelter you can get them much less BUT they require a bunch of things before they let you adopt. It's understandable though. |
