Hi Beaves! We haven't met yet but welcome to the site! We are all just a bit confused about David. You can check out all his posts asking all sorts of questions about greys like he's never owned one before and he just got his first grey. If he is so knowledgeable, then he should know all the answers to his and your questions Also, a good, knowledgeable parrot owner would never give up a parrot just to get a "New" one. If anything, we add to our flock, not replace them That, to us, is like trading your child in for a new one. We just don't believe in it.
You are more than welcome to ask all the questions you want and we will give you the best advice that we can with our experience in parrots. |

well about david, when i said a great woner, tis doesnt mean he knows everything, we all will learn forever, the issue is that here in egypt there isnt a proper place 2 get info, and if u get some info u r not sure, so as far as david reached s all from what he saw, he was the one who invited me 2 the forums, and he told me finaly there is a placw where he is sure 2 get the right answer, thats why he is asking alot to confirm his knowlage, and about the parrots its really costy here to get such a parrot, really costy, so thats why i bought pearl. but he really a wonderful person. |

I figured as much about the availability and knowledge out there in Egypt. We just get concerned when info gets twisted around and feel that someone isn't completely honest with us.
So, as I read in another post, you'd like some basic info on greys I, unfortunately, don't own a grey. I did research them for several years anticipating getting one some day. I do, however, own a 26 year old Yellow Nape Amazon that I adopted about a year ago. The basics are basically the same when it comes to care. It's the personalities that are different and health issues as they come from all over the world
I will try to give you the basics as briefly as I can Greys are like small children with feathers. They love attention and interaction and toys. You can't own a grey and keep it locked up in a cage. They need several hours of out time and are joyful at being involved in whatever you do. Greys are a dusty bird, if you didn't already notice, so daily bathing is nesesary. Whether you give daily spritzes or offer a water bowl with about 1 inch of water in it. I'm sure in egypt it gets quite dry. You may also need a humidifier to keep your bird room somewhat moist. How is your availability as far as pellet food? You don't want them to live on an all seed diet. Seed doesn't offer all the nutrition that they need. Fresh friuts, veggies, cooked pasta, rice, lentils are all good for them. But like all good things, these shouldn't be the only food they eat. Harrisons pellets are #1 but there are others that are good too. Change food daily and water. Fresh foods are to be thrown away after about 3 hours as they will accumulate bacteria. Offer the fresh stuff in a seperate dish so it doesn't get the dry food wet. If your bird doesn't seem to like fresh foods, then offer them in different forms. Sometimes it can take months for them to finally accept new food. Eating the food yourself in front of them is good encouragement too. They are the most intellegent bird out there, often outsmarting you
I hope this gives you a good start. Don't hessitate to ask more questions |
