.....but we might be getting a CAG.
There are two that we are looking at. Both adoption type situations. They are both males and 3 1/2 years and 6 years old.
My hubby is very excited since he just loves CAGs and had to leave his with his mother in Oregon when he left there. Mister Bird would not have taken trip from Oregon to Ohio well at all.
So now we just need to make a decision on which one would be the best choice for us and us for him. I wouldn't want to take in a bird that might not be comfortable with our home, ya know?
The people that I have talked to said that Goffins can be nasty little things to other birds, but given Sera's young age (hatch date 12-30-05) now is a perfect time to introduce her to another bird as everything is new to her.
She does well around other birds as long as they are not big and white. She HATED the U2s and M2s that she has seen but did great around a B & G Macaw. Go figure!
So I probably jinxed things by saying something.......but I'll let everyone know, okay? |

That is soo exciting, a CAG! They are wonderful birds!
May I ask if you want Kera & the CAG to live in one cage? If so, then I wouldn't do it..
Nice to hear that you're thinking of giving an older bird a second chance. |

Oh heavens no! I think the only birds I would put together in a cage would be keets or teils! lol Anything larger starts to worry me!
Like I said, the one I'm worried about is Sera. I'm not hoping for a long lasting friendship, but at least I would like to be able to have them both out at the same time. But if we can't, then we can't. The CAG won't be a 'playmate' for Sera, but a companion to us.

Glad to hear that.. I thought you wouldn't plan that, but I needed to make sure..
I think you can introduce them to each other in a neutral room?? On a flat surface?
I don't say you should do this, but Zazu accepts smaller birds in a strange environment. He even started running for Flit! |

Well....we are leaving in about an hour to go meet the 3 1/2 year old. The owner lives about 1 1/2 hours away from us.
This little one is named Babe (but pronounced Baby). If we all get along, there will be a name change to, I believe, Gabe!
Wish us luck that we all like each other!!
Thanks, FS, for being a good person to warn me about having two birds in one cage. It's good that you said that, even though I won't do it, you never know who might. So it's great for someone 'lurking' around and reading posts to have any information they can! |

Oh my.....that was BAD!!
Not only was he cage aggressive, but he was just plain aggressive even when he was out and away from the cage.
The owner told us that he was hard to get out of his cage and she would have to towel him. So we figured that was easy to work with. But she even toweled him to HOLD him!
We wanted to see her interact with him and he ended up drawing blood from her after a few minutes.
Needless to say, this was not the bird for us. |

I'm sooo sorry that this didn't work out.. Was this the reason why they wanted the grey to be rehomed? |

Well, she was getting divorced.
Now they got the bird two years ago because her daughter was watching a TV show on Animal Planet and saw a Grey and wanted one.
So they bought one. Once she saw the amount of time it took and got bit once or twice, she no longer touched the bird. And like I said, that was about two years ago. So the bird has been toweled to be held ever since.
Also, he's starting to pluck his wings.
And he wasn't banded. I thought that was a law in the US, but I could be mistaken. |

NDM,
My Amy could not be Handle or taken out of her Cage by anybody. Four months I got the &^%$$# bite out of me everytime I tried. and now she is the good Amazon. Of course I can only speak for myself. But a change in enviorments and a lot of TLC goes a long way toward making one of these older birds happy.

Hey Jrmno1, are you thinking of giving that birdy a better home and give it a try? That would be sooo wonderful! |
