Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use for a dry beaky?
Evie is showing outward signs of winter cold and living in a dry heated environment. |

Hi there.. What do you mean with 'dry beak'? Could you get your hands on a humidifier? |

I have a full time humidifier in my house. It's just not enough. She looks healthy. I was thinking about maybe olive oil or an almond oil. |

I guess I've never had the problem before. I've never heard of anyone using those oils on their birds beaks before, but I wouldn't
think
it would be harmful in any way, tho I'm not real sure. |

I am not sure, the beck is like a finger nail, it should not dry out, if it is that bad I would be more concerned with his skin, that is more sentive to low humdity. But if the humidity is high around 42%++ that should not be a problem, could you post a picture,??
Sometimes the beck grows in layers, could it be this maybe a layer is starting to come off?

H'mm..It's hard to see the dryness in those photos, is there actual chipping, or are you talking about it just having a greyish appearance as oppsed to black? |

A combination of both - His beak sometimes appears to be losing a layer and is always very grey towards the front. It might be normal but it just doesn't look that healthy to me. |

Ok, I think I know what you mean and it is normal. The grey on the tips is just the dust from his feathers, from when he preens. My Grey's beak looks the same as yours, and it's definitely just dust. Try making his beak wet, does it still look grey, or is it solid black?
As far as the pealing, that's normal wear and tear. The cells are always regenerating, so while a new layer is growing underneath, the top layer will peal or chip away, just like our skin cells. Nothing to worry about |
