| Got my new grey today! Read on... |
|
|
Picked up my baby today, he has amazed me and so has my sennie. I was prepared for anything but not for it to go as well as it has. He is adorable and loves cuddles. Seems totally at ease. I threw all caution to the wind and put him straight on his cage in full view of Pico. Pico was completely accepting and very curious, I did get Pico loads of new toys as he was eyeing the new ones up with envy lasy night. Pico was adorable as I stood scritching them both, Pico first though to start with. Fed Pico first and my new baby started eating straight away. Both eyeing each other up but perfectly happy and seemed like they have both been here for ages! Pico didn't call for me every time I went out of the room as he usually does and didn't seem the least bit concerned while my new baby had cuddles on the sofa (well lets hope so, but we will keep close contact under check for a while!). Only slight problem was getting my new grey to go back in his cage for bedtime, I think he wanted to sleep out on the play perch. I also hope I didn't upset him by covering the cage, I want him to get a good nights sleep but he isn't used to it. Thrilled to bits and will no doubt bore you all to death with news of how we are getting on, I will wait to do the photoshoot until I am sure he is as laid back as it seems. I think I am going to call him Ziggy, he is 'stardust'! |

Thanks, day two has been just as great. I had to encourage Ziggy to eat a bit more this evening though. His crop didn't seem very full when it was nearly bed time. I hand fed him some soaked food and a bit of egg just to be on the safe side. He is utterly adorable! I will post pics soon, I didn't want to overwhelm him with a flash even though he seems pretty unphased by everything! |

Oh you'll be surprised by how brave they are when it comes to flashlight.
I can't wait to see some pics!
(Can't you turn the flash off by the way?) |

An 8 week old grey won't even notice the flash. Get him use to as many different things as you can. Toe nails need to be worked with daily. Play with his wings as much as you can. Get a harness and start puting her in it and take her outside as soon as you get her in the harness, so she will learn to like that to. She will put up with almost anything at this stage, just be constant with what you do with her now, that is what you are going to be able to do later in her life.

Thanks, you just can't wait for the pics eh I have a harness ready and waiting and will try it at the weekend. I will show him it tomorrow and take it from there. I suppose I am really worried about traumatising my little baby. He is so great already I don't want to spoil it by doing something stupid. But will take the advice and expose him to as much as possible. Need to work on the stepping up first and keeping him off my shoulder! Also a routine, he didn't want to go back in his cage this morning and he did squeeze my finger rather hard as I tried to get him back in for his food. I was nearly late for work as a result. Don't quite know how to deal with that one at the moment. |

CONGRATS on the new fid!! I'm sooo jelous ! Post lots and lots of pics of him! Ziggy is a cute name for a birdy...8 weeks old? Awww!! sounds darling!!!
PS- I almost named my conure Pico. I think it is spanish for beak. I was going to name my conure just pico or pico blanca, which means "white beak" in spanish..love the name choice for your sennie |

Take things at his pace, he will tell you when to slow down, don't force him. But know is the time when he depends on you to teach him what is dangrous and what is safe. After a month or so (a very short time) he will previce anything new as dangrous. |
