Help African Gray  Reply with quote

Hi:

I'm new African Gray owner. He is 4 years old. We have him for 2 weeks. When we got him he talks a lot and we loved it. His wing and nail were not clipped at all with the last owner who had him for 2 years. We got a professional came to our house and clipped the wings and trim the nails. He bleeded when trimming the nails but was stopped immediately. After that day he stopped talking and only say one word sometimes. I'm so upset that he does not talk any more. Would this change and he will start talking again? We keep talking to him and give him a lot of love. Any idea what is wrong and if it can be fixed? Thanks for all the feedback.

I would say that he's probably just a bit upset by the trimming, or even not understand what's going on. Give him sometimes to 'deal with it', and also just talk to him softly. I'd say that he'd come back around soon enough. Very Happy

Give him time and lots of love. My Amy (RLA) has not said a word in almost 2 years. It does not make any difference in the way I feel about her. I know that someday she will again.

Amy, Yes she talked alot and all I did was bring her home. I did not get her for her talking. We got her because we feel in love with her, just like you did with your Grey. Amy knows that we love and care for her, so we figure that she does not feel the need to vocalize. She does not scream or carry on like or other birds, she is very quite and shy.
