The purple around his eye, does it look like a bruise? Is it just on one eye? Is it in the actual eye, or on the white skin patch around the eye? Is there any way you can post a clear close up photo of it?
Just from what you have described, it sounds to me like he may have flown into something or banged into something, and bruised his face. That's happened to my African Gray lots of times. It should disappear in a day or two, and not something to worry about. But it would help if you could post a photo of it.
Are your Gray's wings clipped? If yes, then flying requires a lot more exertion, and so being out of breath immediately after flying is normal. But even if he's not clipped, he obviously does not build up the same type of endurance flying from room to room in a house, as he would flying freely and long distances in the sky, so it's natural for him to get winded like that. This happens to my Gray also.
His skin on his body should be white to a pale pink. Again, can you please post a photo? It will be much easier to tell if something is wrong or not. |

I dont know about African greys, but I havne't heard of a disease that will affect the eyelids of cockatoos. I'd assume that anything that affects AG may affect cockatoos as well?? not too sure actually.
I do agree with Shirin, a photo is probably good.
Apollo has a large bare patch around his eyes, you can defintely see the colour change if he was to bang it or something when he play too hard with his toys or something.
birds need to be fit as well when they fly, just like when human runs, if you're unfit like me, you'd drop dead after sprinting or running for 50meters. |
