|
|
Can anybody halp me aproximate the age of my parrot? The seller told me that (s)he is around 1 year old, but i don't trust him. He would say anything to get his money.
I put a picture of his eyes in my homepage. Is the only picture i was able to take, because when he sees the camera starts screaming |

I don't know this for sure, but I'd say his eyes are far too yellow to be one year old. |

Baby Greys have dark grey eyes that almost look black until they're about 6 months, after which their eyes start to become a lighter grey. At around 1 year of age their eyes should be a very light grey. Between a year and 2 years their eyes will turn a straw colour, and after 3-4 years which is when they mature, the iris will turn yellow.
Judging by the picture you posted, I think your Grey might be between a year to 2 years, closer to 2 years. The colour of his/her eyes look close to my Greys, but a bit more yellow. I guess I would describe them as the straw colour. My Grey is just over a year old (1yr and 2 months) I'm pretty sure the irises get more yellow than what your Grey's irises look like after sexual maturity.
Can you try to get more pictures? Or maybe you can look at pictures of my Grey and compare the colour of her eyes, with yours? It might be easier to tell in person. |

The fact that i noticed is that in other pictures of other greys , the yellow part is larger and the black part si smaller.
I studied other pictures , of mature greys, and it seems to me that my parrot has a little yellow, isn't it?
Anyway, I understand that nobody can tell exactly the age, but , in any case , he is not mature, right? Not 5 or 10 years old....
When he arrived in Romania, had a companion . There were 2 greys. The other one , was bigger, with a larger head, and 10 times more agressive. Mine, was a little bit quieter, and smaller.
That was the fact that determined me to pick him instead of the other(that seemed older).
So, I really want a birthday for him. When we celebrate . And approximately an age. Next year in september 11, he will have his birthday party(on 11 september he arrived in my home, because his exact birthday it is impossible to know). But then, he will be 3 years old or 33....? |

No I don't think your grey has reached sexual maturity yet, from what I can tell from the picture. My guess is you should celebrate his 3rd birthday
I think your Grey may be a female if he was smaller than the other Grey. Females are usually smaller than males. May CAG is tiny compared to some male Greys that I have seen. |

bokgrasul, in the Netherlands captive bred birds that are banded, can be traced. Also their year of birth is on their bands. |
