how to bathe him?!!?!?!?!  Reply with quote

Oskar HATES water....
he hates when I'm wet...
he hates if he sees a spray bottle...
the lil terd even bites me if we even go NEAR the bathroom!!!!!!
and forget about going in there.... Rolling Eyes
my poor hands suffer for it... Crying or Very sad
and now he's going through a pretty heavy molt...and those
pin feathers are all over the place....
I've been told that warm showers are a good way to get the pins to break easier and stuff.....
does anyone have any ideas that I could use to show him that baths can be fun and there is no need to hate the water???

Yikes, that is tough! Isn't Oskar in for a bath when you put the vaccuumcleaner on? Most greys (and other birds) will dive into their waterbowls then.

he has only ever done that once.....and only his feet/tummy can fit... Laughing
I'm kind of wondering if maybe he's had some bad experiences with water.....he also LOATHES towels.....
same with Sonnie....once we're anywhere close to a bathroom...he starts screaming and carrying on....and his molt is even heavier...and his poor little head is just covered in pinnies.......
I can tell it's painfull, because today he let me stroke his head and pet him for the first time...but if I tried to ruffle his feathers and give him scritches....he started doing his "owwie" scream........
and I just can't get them to even try a bath....
Sonnie does bathe himself in his water dish.... Laughing

Hmmm I see.. When you took him to the bathroom, did you give him a real shower?
You can take him to the bathroom and praise him when he's quiet. You can let him sit with you, without him getting wet. (Let the steam do the work)

and Sonnie will sometimes sit and be good...but he won't let me get him wet....

Lynzi.. Try not to make them wet at first.. Smile That's something for later.
Next time, can't you take Oskar into the bathroom when he's sitting on a perch? In this way he can't bite your hands?

I have a few times....but for two days afterwards he's just a big fluffy monster!!!!!
I deal with him biting alright...but I certainly don't like it Wink
but maybe the thing to do is just to take him in there every day for his fun meals....

That would be a GREAT idea! Don't turn on the shower then! Very Happy
And please be careful not to reward him for biting you.. Cool

Lynzi Misty really hates a shower too but she will bath if I put a low container of water on top of her cage. She goes absolutely nuts. I do keep trying to take her in the shower.........just let her sit on the perch and not really get her wet other than a few drops. She adores sitting on the curtain rod while I'm showering. Surprise.......persistance pays off. Last week while I was spritzing down the birds in the bird room she came over for a spritz and loved it. The other day she did the same thing. I was so proud of her. Keep trying and you may be surprised because I never thought I would see the day Misty would enjoy a spritz. Of course now I just have to get Cody and Kaylee to enjoy it to. Confused Smile

well....
I took him into the bathroom....on a perch, mind you...and he still got my fingers..... Crying or Very sad
and he would not eat his dinner!!
so from now on I will have him in there with me while I take a shower......
and give him treats if he behaves......
and if he doesn't...he'll get a firm talking to by his gramma... Wink

Lynzi Bunny hates showers too, and if I left it up to her she would only take a bath like 3 times a year in a bowl, and only get her tail wet. I tried for a very long time to ease her into showering and get her to like it, but she wasn't having it. So now I just take her in the shower with me and have her sit on a perch while I'm showering, so she gets a lot of steam which is also good for her feathers, and then just before I finish I hold her under the water. She doesn't like it and throws a fit, but it doesn't traumatize her or anything, once we're out of the water she immediately gets over it and starts preening and being cuddly.

yeah...I kind of think the way I'll end up having to do it is to kind of force (for lack of a better word) him to have a shower at least a couple times a month.....I'll just put up with an angry boy for a couple of days afterward....but it's for his well-being...so I think I'll just have to get him used to it.....I'll duct tape a bag of treats in the shower and give him one every few minutes.... Wink

well.....we had a shower today!!
and I think Oskar was faking that he hates it......
you should have seen him afterwards!!
he was running all over my mom's bed and flapping and just having a grand ole time drying off in the sunlight!!!
he was really scared until I got in with him....he sat on his stand...and I sat on the floor by him...and he was such a good boy.....he got soaked!!!
and I'm certain that he just loved it!!
but he was eager to get out when he was done..... Laughing
thanks for all of your help everyone!!! I'll let you know how his attitude is later on....I'm a bit scared about what will happen Confused
