Me Again  Reply with quote

I am sorry to bother you again but i am also a bit worried that my CAG may be older than i was told. How do you tell the age? i have been told you can tell by the eyes. His eyes are black with a yellow ring round. just worried that he might not learn new things.
Sorry about all the questions but no matter how many books i read they never have the information i need/
Many thanks

Hi Nicky Smile
Babies have dark grey eyes that almost look black until they're about 6 months, after which their eyes start to become a lighter grey. At around 1 year of age their eyes should be a very light grey. Between a year and 2 years their eyes will turn a straw colour, and after 3-4 years which is when they mature, the iris will turn yellow.

So if your Honey bunny's iris is an obvious yellow, he could be past the maturity age, but it could also be the straw colour that you're describing as yellow.

None the less, aside from the fact that you may have been lied to about his age, don't let this worry you at all. African Greys are very intelligent creatures and live very long lives, throughout which they continue to learn every day. Even if Honey Bunny is an adult, it's still not too late to train him and teach him new things. Please don't feel discouraged Smile Give it time, I promise you he'll come around, and then you'll wonder how you ever got on without a Grey in your life Laughing

I forgot to add, if you look on my diary pages, you can compare the colour of your Greys eyes with mine. My Bunny is just over a year old, and if you notice his eyes are kind of getting to be that straw colour.
