So much for all that talk about wing clipping Bunny. I took Bunny for grooming, and now he's depressed anyway This morning he wans't his usual self. Usually when he wakes up, he's really vocal, he talks and sings and whisles. But today he was quiet. He wouldn't eat, and he was just poofed up on his perch staring at the floor By evening he still hadn't touched his food, and he spent all day sitting on a perch. I didn't want him to go to sleep with an empty crop, so I moistened his pellets with his orange juice, and held it ot to him in my fingers until he finally took one. At around 11pm he finally ate. I Hope he'll be back to normal tomorrow, I'm so worried about him |

Ohhh Shirin, I'm so sorry to hear this..
I don't want to be a big pain, but how do you respond to it? Do you show you're concerned? I know this is VERY hard! (I also want to emphasize that medical things should be ruled out as well)
Zazu does the very same thing to me. When he notices I'm concerned, he'll make me even more concerned. Last time he refused to drink so I emphasized it even more, resulting in him to stop drinking.. When I went to my vet, he started drinking.. That..
Was it more dark today? (Rainy?) My birds are more quiet then too.. When it's sunny, they're more active..
Is there something Hazelnut & Pistachio LOVE? You can make Bunny jealous by feeding them treats in front of him. Then if he shows interest, you can offer him some as well..
Or you can have breakfast, etc with him? Something he likes to have as well, and is also healthy for him?
I've also found out that if I make them do something (like saying 'hi') for a treat, they'll be more likely to chew up the treat..
Please let us know how he's today Shirin.. I hope Bunny is doing better.. |

It usually takes a couple of days for them to stop brooding after, Picasso will sulk after his vet visits , I used to fuss over him opologising for taking him to see the man who does awful things to him but I find he responds better if I get him back into his routine. |

Sue, I probably did show concern.. I guess I felt really guilty. I think his nails are too short. That night that we came back from the vet he fell off his perch in the middle of the night and in the morning he had a big scratch on his nose I thought to myslef that I'm never getting his nails done again, and that I would rather have cuts and scratches all over my arms from his nails then to see one single scratch on my baby.
Yes it was a dark and rainy day yesterday, how did you know?!?! Maybe that did add to his mood? The lovebirds didn't seem to be affected though.
Well today is a new day, Bunny hasn't woken up yet, but when he does I hope he's over his funk. |

Shells I did the same thing I appologized to Bunny for taking him to the mean man.. This was only the second time he's been to the vet, and the first time he was totally fine the next day. So I guess I was a little taken a back by his reaction this time. It's comforting to hear that all of you have been through similar situations, and that they get over it soon enough. |

That's a good idea Greg. Although yesterday I tried to shower him with special treats to make him forget about his sadness, but it was useless. I even gave him a pencil, his most favorite thing in the world, which he usually goes crazy for, and he just dropped it on the floor That reminds me, I have to buy more peanuts. Those are his favorite treats. |

This morning Bunny seemed to be a tiny bit more vocal when he woke up, and he had 1 pellet for breakfast on his own. But then he sat in the corner sulking again. Now it's 1 pm, and I just hand fed him his pellets because he wasn't eating anymore. He was probably starving, because he ate a lot. He's improving, but very slowly |

Shirin,
I'm so sorry to read how Bunny has taken to the vet visit. The poor thing probably doesn't understand why he has to go to the mean man!
You have done such a great job comfroting him and making sure that he's ok. I'm sure like what has been said that he'll eventually come around. My budgies hated me when I first clipped their wings. They would turn their back on me and ignore me for a day or two. Although they don't go to the extent of not eating though as they are such little piggies... couldn't stop them eating if I wanted to! LOL.
I'm sure Bunny is enjoying the extra attention his Mommy is giving him, and will soon realised that everything is OK just the way it is before the mean man. I'm so sorry though that you have go through the rough/stressful patch with Bunny. I hope he gets better by the hour. |

Don't worry about showing concern Shirin. I know it's hard not to! Really!
Did his nails bleed when they were done? I don't think they're too short otherwise? I don't know? It could be that he just has to get used to shorter, less sharp nails..
It was quite dark and rainy yesterday here too and they were really quiet.. I was worried too, then thought of the rain.. Ow well, wild birds are affected by it too..
By the way, it's less noticible on Flit. Those lovies are more active, I guess that's the reason you can't easily tell?
How is Bunny today? |

Boy, those fids can throw the guilt on ya can't they He'll be okay. Just keep doing what your doing and try to keep him busy to keep his mind off the mean man.
I like your idea Greg on clipping weekly. Do you mean clip like one feather a week to get them used to the idea of being clipped? Sounds like a good game plan |

Bunny is eating on his own again, and he's beginning to get a bit more vocal. But he's not his usual self yet. The past couple of months he had really gained a lot of confidence and I could tell he was feeling 100% safe here. He showed more curiousity then ever, and would constantly climb down his cage and go exploring around the room. It took a while for him to get to that point, and I just hope he's not back to square 1. Because now, even when I bring him down, he quickly climbs back up his cage |

Missed that post, but reread it.. That's a great idea..
My avian vet told me to clip daily! (Well, just the idea of being handled, wings spread, seeing a pair of scissors etc) |

Ahhh that's so good to hear Shirin!
I think that curiosity will come again.. Please try not to worry to much.. Can you lure him onto the ground by playing there yourself? (Or reading on a pillow or blanket?) |

Oh Shirin, please don't let this worry you too much. We all know that birds knows how to make us pay for what we 'did' to them!! I think Bunny is really milking it!! LOL.. getting all those treats and attention!! Those things are just so smart I reckon, especially the greys! I am pretty sure that all your efforts with Bunny before hasn't gone down the drain, I don't think he's gone back to square one. He probably just need a few more days to sulk it over... or to milk it somemore!! |
