Need a name and update  Reply with quote

Hi, I posted a little while ago that I had gotten a timneh grey. Then my computer crashed so I am back now 3 weeks later and I still don't have a name. I don't know why this has to be so hard. I wanted to name her after an african flower or tree but, I am having so much trouble finding one. It seems the origin of plants is hard to find. I want to make her name a tribute to her past relatives so even an african word with a nice meaning to is would work. Any suggestions on where I can find names like this?

Now an update on her. She has been doing really well. She was pretty shy the first couple days. After about a week she really started coming around very nicely. She lets me scratch her and always steps up. She knows even where she isn't allowed to go and when I am distracted she proceeds to go there. She has played with every toy in her cage and is definately one funny bird.

As to a name, I am sorry I can not help you with an african, but I am sure that someone will be along soon. These post sometimes get lost in the mix. I assure you that thier are alot of people in the forum will and able to help with your quest...

I have now made a homepage so all my birdies are on it! Greys are great aren't they? Mine is bonded to me right now! She is still young and new though. I want her to become socialized with lots of different people, places, and things.

Hi! Okay, so I thought I'd do some searching to see what kind of names I could come up with...

African Names:

Ayanna (meaning "beautiful flower")
Ayoka (meaning "one who causes joy")
Ilori (meaning "special treasure")
Isabis (meaning "something beautiful")
Kabibe (meaning "little lady")
Kanoni (meaning "little bird")
Keeya (meaning "garden flower")
Palesa (meaning "flower")

Those are just some I found that I liked. The website www.babynames.com is GREAT for finding names, their origin, and meaning. Very useful tool. Smile Let us know when you've decided on a name!

Thanks! I tried a different baby name website, but this one is so much better cause I can search the meaning. I like the name Keeya because it is short and probably easier for her to learn than something longer. I will keep searching and hopefully I will make a decision by the end of today.

Well, I went through all the African names on the site and I have decided to name her Kya. It means "diamond in the sky". I thought it would suit her very well. Thanks again for the help!

Oo, that's a really pretty name! Smile Out of curiosity, do you pronounce it like "KY-ya" (sounding like 'eye') or "KEE-ya" (sounding like the letter 'E')? And no problem for the help.
