Rene, it's always so exciting to hear what they come up with. Don't be surprised though that she talks more when you're not right with her. I believe it's their way of keeping in touch with the flock. Smokey is in my kitchen but in a spot where she can see into the dining and living room as well. She does most of her nonstop talking when we are in the living or dining room, further away from her. Especially if we're watching TV or talking so that there's activity going on. That's when she gets going best. I think it's her way of including herself in the conversations.
As for the biting thing, Greys are sensitive and independent. She will have her occasional moods and attitudes. You just need to learn to read her body language and respect when she's not in the mood to be handled. Other than the need to "step up" when told, regardless of mood, I let Smokey do things on her own terms here. It makes us both more relaxed and keeps my fingers in tact.
Enjoy! I'm sure you'll be having lots more excitment as her vocabulary blossoms.
