No such luck :(  Reply with quote

Just wanted to update everyone on Bunny's progress with showering... there is no progress Rolling Eyes He's molting right now, he has tons of pins around his neck and is constantly scratching, but he won't even let me spray him with a mister! He'll jump off his perch and run under the bed or something. I don't really wanna chase him down and start spraying him, I'm worried I'll traumatize him or something, you know how sensitive Greys are. I'm still taking him in the bathroom with me while I shower and he watches me, but he still screams if I try to put him under the water... I don't know, maybe he's had some traumatic experience with water while he was at the pet store or something... I'm feeling really discouraged about the whole thing Rolling Eyes

Hey Shirin,
Don't be too discourage if Bunny doesn't like water. Some birds just dont no matter what you try with it.

I've heard that if bird doesn't like to bath or shower, I hear that a steam bath is more than sufficient for them as this help to moisten their skin.

Hope this help...

Hi Shirin,
Try putting Bunny on one of your shower rails if you have one. That way they are up nice and high (feels safer) and can check out whats going on. They will also get a steam bath. My rainbow lorrie Pilot doesn't like the water but loves sitting in this spot. He fluffs up his feathers and preens while I'm in the shower. Then when I'm not looking he later dives in his water bowl and makes a huge mess. Wink

Shirin, my parrots don't enjoy the mister that much.. But, you can try other things perhaps?
Please don't worry about traumatizing Bunny.. Just try to present the mister as a fun thing.. Smile

You already take him into the shower.. How about not really holding him under the water, but let the drops bounce on you onto Bunny? Or showering very hot, so that the steam will 'drench' his feathers? Or is it rainy at this time of year where you live? The grey here just LOVES the rain, yet he doesn't like the mister a lot..

Please don't feel discouraged.. Parrots can be quite complex animals, being afraid of very 'silly' things, while being fearless for certain things they SHOULD be afraid of.
(Like: Zazu's afraid of bikes, and he is fearless when it comes to panthers!)

Good luck Shirin.. Smile

Shirin, this might sound funny, but.......I heard that birds associate the vacuum with water. Perhaps the sound of thunder in the wild. Anyway, maybe place a bowl of water by him and start running the vacuum. I know that Chaquita starts dipping herself in her water bowl when I fire up the vacuum and she isn't much of a bath fan either. Couldn't hurt Very Happy

Chaquita's Mom, that doesn't sound funny at all! That's a wonderful suggestion! Smile
The greys here also start bathing when I use the vaccuum, really! Smile

Thanks for mentioning this!

Don't feel bad. Not all greys like the water. Sam is not crazy about the water mister.....actually he hates it but I do take him into the shower with me and since I do like those hot showers the steam builds up and he gets wet! He sits on top of the shower curtain rods....after the shower I fill the tub with water and put him in the water....maybe just 2 inches of water...he is not crazy about it but he is starting to tolerate it more ...granted this is a year down the road!

Confused ok.. so I guess I'll just keep bringing him in the bathroom for the steam... maybe one day he'll finally want to join me in under the water Rolling Eyes he does take baths sometimes, for example when he sees the lovies doing it and he gets jealous, but for some reason even though he sees them being misted, he still hates it.. oh well, I'll just hang in there and keep trying the way I did with the lovebirds' food conversion Very Happy

Hi Shirin,

that's the right kinda of attitude!!! Smile Well apart from the fact that bunny really doesn't like it at the moment... There are still hopes don't worry.... I used to have a cockatiel that hates any form of water, but over time of me taking him into the shower with me, he started to realise what fun it was to shower!! It took a few years, but it did happen...

Yeah it's actually quite funny. I usually make sure Apollo isn't near the cage or anywhere near the vacuum when I do the cleaning, but now that you mentioned photos, I might just stick him near it next time!! LOL.. Smile
