Now he's being mean....  Reply with quote

I don't understand that bird...one second he's lovey dovey and giving me kisses...the next, he's trying to bite my fingers off...
it's getting a bit frustrating...
I never know why he just turns so mean...
sometimes if he even sees a spray bottle....then, there's a certain towel I use...if he sees that he freaks out...and now I'm wondering if he gets mad if my hair is wet.....
is there something wrong with him?
Or am I just a horrible parrot owner?

Lynzi Marie,
Greys are extremely sensitive birds. They can very easily be frightened by things that make no sense to us. For instance Smokey hates dark nailpolish. If I have any on I can be sure she's going to bite my finger if I try to touch her. She is also more unsure of anything red as opposed to other colors. Any new toy with red has to be introduced slowly with her. She also does not like hats. So it could be the spray bottle or towel that's upsetting her for some reason. You need to observe when she seems to be upset and agitated to see if you find a pattern.

Also, greys are simply not real cuddly birds. I know there are probably some exceptions, but for the most part greys do not solicit (or tolerate) hands on attention like many other birds. Smokey loves to be in the center of activity in the household, to be included in conversation, in the room with you, etc. But she only wants scritches or to be held when she's in the mood. I have learned to read her body language to know when it's okay to touch her or when I'm best leaving her alone to avoid her drawing blood. She does step up on command and I don't allow her any leeway with that (for her own safety). But other than that I keep my hands off unless she's in the mood.

I do not take any of her behavior as personal against me, or to mean she doesn't like me. It simply means she's a typical grey who prefers being worshipped from afar.

thanks...
he's better now,
but I have no idea why he was being a meanie pants......
usually I can tell too....
but this time something was different....
but now I know even better....
it's kind of funny...
I know if he's in a good mood if he doesn't want to step up....
if he's in a bad mood, he'll willingly step up then grab my thumb or wrist skin.....
he's odd....
very odd...

Oh no, you're not a horrinle pet owner.. Smile

Can you get him used to the towel by playing peek a boo with him? First you can put him on top of the towel.. Then you can slowly start lifting up a corner.. Smile
