how is Oskar now?
I think I agree with Sue in a sense that birds yes tend to mope when they suddenly loose the ability to fly, but given that they have other activities to keep them stimulated, they will soon forget.
I remember when I trimmed Apollo's wing (Because I had to while I was gone for a month for my parents to birdsit him), he moped for over a week, then he got to my parents place and that was the end of moping. he had new people to 'charge and attack' therefore taking his mind off his wings! Let him settle down and get used to his new situation with his wings, and soon he'll figure out other ways of getting to you on your bed.. they are all genuises!! |

he's gotten used to it....he realized that if he wants to go on car rides.....his wings have to be short.......
he loves those car rides...but I'm still torn on it.....
and he sure figured out a way to get to my bed already!!! he hops down to the floor and walks right over to me......
and climbs up my pant legs..... |

They're so smart, aren't they?! They find their way so quickly!

This wing clipping thing seems to be quite a 'hot' issue like there are with parenting children!!! Im so glad your little one is happier again and as people have said his wings will grow back and personally im glad you have decided not to get them clipped again.
When Major came to me his wings were clipped and to be honest it doesnt stop them being able to glide downwards...but he so often crash landed because he had little control in his wings and I was having to scoop him up and restore him to his 'house'. I decided to let Majors flight feathers grow back and Im very happy I did because crash landings are now very rare. my vet was right he said Major would find his flight path and adjust and be fine and indeed he has, he flies in a circuit of the room and lands beautifully and it isnt a particularly big room. I live in a flat. But I have to say for me I cannot take away what they were born to do which is to fly. Of course unless there was good reason for the birds own welfare. My vet is very anti wing clipping and does not offer the service at his practise...I think its a very individual thing tho. |

Well I have never had Poppet's wigs clipped. I thought about it and decided against it and I am really gad I did. With his newish cage he can actually fly around it and it is lovely seeing him playing and flying and jumping around in there. He has flwn into some stuff but not that much. I under stand some birds have to be clipped and i respect that. I think Oskar may have been more upset about the ordeal itself rather than not being ale to fly It probably feels a bit weird but I doubt it will have hurt him, like sue said make a list of pro's and con's.
