| Question about droppings |
|
|
Is it normal for my African grey's droppings to be mostly water?
This is normally when he's out of his cage and probably pretty excited |

It's normal for his poop to be mostly water when he's on baby food. Is he still being handfed? Or has he been eating more watery food recently? It's ok for there be more urine (the liquid part of poop), as long as the actual poop (green part) is still solid. But if the green part looks liquidy too, it's diarrhea (sp?) watch his poop closely for the next couple of days and if it looks like diarrhea I'd say take him to the vet just to be on the safe side. |

I agree. It is possible to have more urine depending on what he/she has been eating/drinking, however if the feces is not solid in any way I would also guess diarrhea. There are 3 components to the poop which are the clear urine, the feces and the i believe they are called the urates (usually that whitey coloured stuff) I don't think that excitement has too much to do with it. I try to monitor my birds' poop as often as I can (fun stuff) so that I can notice if there is an unexplainable change. If it does seem to be diarrhea to you, I would definitely consider taking him to a vet also. |

He's about 4 months old and not being hand fed.
The geen part is solid like green worms, it just seem more urine when out his cage and it's been like this since we got him in july.
At first he wouldn't eat any fruit or veg so it couldn't have been soft food.
He's very active and doesn't seem ill at all and he does eat and drink ok |

It sounds like he's just fine. He probably drinks a lot of water. HEY, does he have salt as an added ingredient in his food??? Salt causes them to be more thirsty, therefore, having more urine than poo. The only reason why I think this is cuz I just had my ferret to the vet for a bladder infection and he told me, in addition to his meds, to give him a little salt in his food so he drinks more water to flush out his system. Avoid salty foods. |
