Thanks Suzie..
Rocco is not my African grey, sadly..
This can quickly be accomplished.
Have you seen the photos of Borre, the amazon parrot? He was in a cage for about 35 years or so..
(A TINY cage!)
Within a few weeks, my friend was able to take him shopping.. He thoroughly enjoyed it! |

Within a few weeks? I met him on monday, march 28th. I adopted him on wednesday, march 30th. He went outside for the first time ( wasn't used to fly) thursday march 31st. Friday, april 8th, his wings were clipped and he went with us to town. The next day he went with me by train to visit a friend, ride a horse, climb a tree in the forest etc. So it's even faster! My senegal parrot went with me on bike to the town within one week after his wings were clipped. Many things are possible even within a few hours. But remember: a parrot is a wild creature, not a domestic animal. My senegal felt the early spring and managed to fly away, even though his wings were clipped. He had been flying around for years, and he was muscled and very light, and with a strong will lol! So now he resides in some green paradise, close to luxury apartments for the retired. He apparently accepted his situation as "tame" bird just for the time being... |

Sorry! I didn't want to 'brag' too much, I didn't know the exact chronological timeline..
I still have hope you'll get Joris to live with you again.. Next time, we'll search for him again.. With Iago & little Flit.. |

This is such a heart warming story! You are very Lucky as this is very hard to achieve with any bird being locked up for 30 years, let alone it being a Grey..they are so untrusting & nervous by nature. Thanks for sharing this with us! Pam |
