A week has passed since you all so kindly started helping me. Travis willing climbs onto my hand now after shouting 'Oi, Travis want out' at me. He sits on my arm for 5 - 10 minutes, even lets me move a little with him. But today, he decided he wanted to explore my shoulders, when that became no more fun he climbed down my back and perched quite happily, then dropped feaces on me. When i tried to manouver him back to my arm, he gave my finger a warning bite, but immediately wanted a tickle on his neck right after. Travis is my first parrot so i am not entirely sure with what i am doing with him, apart from his diet and his hygeine care. His speech is absolutely hilarious, he quite often tells my 2 dogs to 'Get OUT!' of the dining room and get on their bed (funnier thing is the dogs obey him) or he will tell the children to shut up and eat their dinner. He gives me kisses and 'Awwwwwws' when he see's me. Sometimes i think our Cockatiel is far more obedient than our parrot! |

It sounds like you are doing good, I would consider not letting him on your shoulder. In the world of Parrots, the bird that is the highest is boss. So by letting him on your shoulder you could be telling that it is alright that he is boss. This is not true with all parrots, thier personialty has a great deal to do with that status, but it sounds as though you have a domaint bird. Try this the next time he heads for your shoulder, place your free hand in front of him and tell him to step up. Give him a "Good" and a treat.
Grey's can get a bite nippie at times, But when you consider that thier beck is thier hand, they use it just like we use ours. The only way they have to test something before they step up on to it is to reach down and give it a nip. I would not consider what happened to be a bad thing, nor unusual. It is just he was unsure and need to test the perch out before he got up on it.
Hope this helps
