TAG  Reply with quote

This post started over in the Zon area with "Blind Lilic" With no way to help the Zon I am going to rescue the TAG. How long after getting it home should I look at switching it out of its way to small 10 year old cage?

Also on it feet on one side it has its band on the other it has a foot teather. I removed the last 4" of braid when I was there tonight. Should I try to remove the ring of just leave it.

Also I have read that some time changing a birds name can help it know its in a new home and new place in its live. What do you think?

How strange was it that the bird regurataed for me at our first meeting? It went aginst every thing I knew about Greys.

I am sure this will be the first of many "what do you think" posts. I hope you do not mind.

Hi

I'm so glad that you have got the TAG. When you get it, I don't think it'll be any trouble at all to get him into a new cage. I think it might not know what to do with all the extra space now, but I'm sure it'll be used to it in no time. It'll be glad to be in a bigger cage for sure.

Changing names is up to you... it does sort of give it a new identity to go with a new life, and sometimes bird do associate that .

I'm not sure about regurgitating and the foot teather. it is aweful that bird has to put up with that.. that's dangerous for the little gu actually...

I'd remove the foot teather. I don't what it's made of, you may have to have it removed by a vet?
I also think that changing it's name might be a good idea in this case.
I'm soooo glad he's going to be living with you!

Sometimes regurgitating is a sign of affection, like their trying to feed you. He may be sick though. Sometimes people misinterprit illness for affection. I reccomend taking him to the vet to rule out sickness. Do you have any other birds? If so, make sure you quarantine the newcomer for at least 21 days.

Other then needing a shower the bird looked good. The cage had not been cleaned in a while and the poo looked good. Its eyes where clear and no discarge from eyes or nose. I was even able to look at its vent and it was clean.
It really seemed to me that it was trying to feed me. I got the whole head bobbing dance along with it. It only brought up a couple of seeds and its seemed soooo pleased with its self.
I have already started to move the love birds. I had been keeping them in sepreat cages but I made them vary happy last night and put all the toys in the bigger cage and put them together. They had been able tp play and have sleep overs once in a while so this was not to new. They will be going into another room(my sons who ownes on of the loves)So the TAG can live in the family room and be around people as soon as posible.
I had bad dreams all night of greys crying in there cages with there feet up begging. No matter what I did I could not get them out of there. Its kind of stange, after wanting a large parrot for so long you think I would be happy. Instead I am sad and busy tring to get everything in order and come up with the cash as soon as posibale.

He loves you... Very Happy and that's a good thing!! Just don't let him over do it!!! LOL...

I agree, get him to a vet to check things out... and also remember the quarantine period.. remember to wash your hands and change your clothes if you've been cuddling him before you handle your lovies.

sounds like you're pretty set with receiving this TAG... Do you know when you'll be able to pay for it?? as in, how soon will be able to bring this bird to a better home??

Well I went through all my change this morning and took in my cans and came up with $160. Add to that $40 I can squeeze out of this weeks check, I am going to take $200 to her Monday and see if she will let me have it for that price. I really do not want to wait much longer. I found a bird vet this morning (I know I should have found one sooner but the lovies have been so heathy.) He is going to give me a price cut with vet bills. He want to run a full blood panel on this poor bird to make sure everything is ok. We are going to do it over a couple months to make the it a little more affordable. If something is found and we need to move faster he has a couple numbers of nonprofits that do one time ER funding for pets to save there lives.
Also on it beak, he knows of a vet in Southern CA that might be able to fix its beak! He would make a cast of whats left build it up and permitly fix it on to the stump!!! Very Happy The best news is he may do it for free! All that vet wants is a clean bill of health and the bird in my hands for 6 months. Thats to make sure its heathy for the operation.
I have to go out of town this weekend so Monday will be as soon as I can talk to her again. I am hopping withthe news of treatment for this bird she may let me have it sooner and for less money. I still need to find a bigger cage for it. I am not going to worry about toy other then a couple foot toys. I will need to teach it how to play. When I visted with it yesterday I took my keys and put them in my mouth and shook them, then handed it to the TAG. After a couple of times the TAG started to shack them to! So there is hope that I will have a toy player soon, just need to show it how to play.

You will notice that I have never called the bird any thing but, it or TAG. I think I am afried to. At this point if some thing happens It would break my heart.

I am over Sunday when I get back from my trip. I can not wait till then. The not naming the bird thing I tried to do did not work. If every thing goes right when he gets home his new name will be Spirit.

Spirit is home! I have had him 24 hours and he is a better bird then I would have ever dreamed! He has spent most of the day out of his to small cage and is settling down faster then I have ever seen a bird. He loves head pets and just sitting next to me watching TV on his basket.

One thing I have notices is he does not have the uperbeck point to shred. He can not even shred paper. I gave him a piece of toast and he was soooo happy ripping that to bits! Do any of you have a idea what else he can shred?

BTW I will start a home page and post pics in a bit.

How much of the upper beak was taken off? Generally beak will grow to a certain extent. Though i'm not sure if Spirits will. have you taken him to a vet to have it looked at??
