| Too much snuggling |

Hi
Just got a new african grey last week, about 3 months old, very affectionate, but only seems to want to sit on my shoulder and have her head rubbed, not interested in sitting on my hand or arm or playing with toys very much. Not plucking feathers or anything, eating and drinking well, how can i encourage her to do different things, have played with her toys in front of her and that gets her interested for a short while, but then it's back to the shoulder and snuggling.
Any advice please.

3 months old isn't that old at all, so it'll need time to learn to.. and also, since you've only had it for about a week, it's probably still settling down and getting used the new environment. sounds like the bird is doing great. just give it some times to settle down and give it some toys in the cage to play with... foot toys are always good... good luck. keep us posted with how he's going. |

I have been doing a lot of reading this last week. One of the ways to teach play is to play with it your self. Start out with a set of baby keys you can get from the toy dept. Play with it in your hand, put it in your mouth and shake it around (yes you will look funny but it works) Play with it for a couple min. with out even leting your birg touch it. After awhile offer it to them. No? Then just keep playing with it your self. This may take a couple days. I tryed this on the Grey I am trying to get and it took about 7 min to get it to touch the keys, after that I would shake it in my mouth and then it would do it to! This is a 10 year old bird who has never had/learned toy play.
Good Luck! |
