| Urgent help..!!! |
|
|
Hi everyone, I am sorry but I need ur help urgently. My KouKa (CAG) has a wet nostril. Around the nasal hole ( the left one) you can see some wetness. Then it dried away the day before yesterday and today it appeared again. Is this flu (bird flu????) I am so worried. But she is still alive from the day before yesterday. She sneezes, eats well and responds to performing tricks and talking. what shall I do. Remember we have no Avian vets here in Egypt I hope you can help me.. |

Please don't worry about avian flu.. It will be highly unlikely to be avian flu!
Did he drink before he got the wet nostrils? Usually they have them here after their bath.. |

First those are not the simptions of the Flu.
I am not an Avain Vet, but this is what I have found in Dawn Our Cockatoo, has had one nostrils wet sence we brought her home almost a little over one year ago. The Vet says that is is a "Sines infection", Our Vet has treated her one time so far. It is hard to cure, but it will not kill her. If this is the problem. There could be other things as well. Give it time to take care of it's self. Sence you don't have a Vet, I guess that is all you can do. Good luck... |

How about doing some research on the internet? I looked up PBFD the other day as I was curious about it and why birds needed to be tested. I found out a lot of information relating to this disease ( still not sure how easy it is for captive bred birds to get it though.) There might even be a parrot vet or parrot sanctuary online who may be able to help you if you are still worried. I hope all is well though. |

If there is a chance that your bird has a sinus infection, you can help him by improving his diet. You would want to do this even if your did have a vet because even the best drug cannot build your bird up to resist infections.
Vitamin A is necessary for sinus health, and it can be found (as beta carotene) in fruits and vegetables that are orange or dark green. Sweet potatoes, yams, carrots, and apricots are good sources, especially if they are organically grown. Dark leafy greens are also good: kale, dandelion, etc. I believe some people supplement bird's diets with cod liver oil for the vitamin A in it, but you will have to research how to do that.
If you are having trouble getting high-quality food for your bird, Shanlung has posted the recipe he uses to keep his African Gray healthy. His bird, Tinkerbell, has travelled a lot with him, no doubt being exposed to all kinds of germs, but is in beautiful health. I believe you will be able to find all the ingredients in your food market. If you can't, we can figure out substitute ingredients.
Without the luxury of having an avian vet, I feel you have no choice but to concentrate on building robust health in your bird as a defense against any disease. |
