Our CAG after one years, it was like someboy flip a switch in her head.... now at times I wish I could switch it off.... She is almost 1.5 years old. I am sure that a TAG is the same. |

what a relief to hear this...
bandit imitates lots of things, and is just learning words.
he's got cockatiel shrieks down really good, and gets them going.
also can bark like our dog, do the microwave, phone, and other sounds.
he's been muttering more trying to make words...
jer says if i teach him ...git er done... i'm in trouble LOL
bandit loves watching TV.
will he pick up sounds and words from the TV too?
i can just hear it now... that sound from law and order....
what do i need to watch for if he starts saying real words?
can you teach them certain words are no no's like you do a child?
i just dont know what to expect...and i want to be a good parent/flock leader you know?

Some times it takes two years for a grey to start talking, you are lucky. Ours does the phone perfectly.... Then our Yellow nape answer it....It can get real funny in our birf room at times, we don't know whats going or coming...Have fun with bandit.
Don't worry to much about him bonding with your room mate, Grey often can change thier chosen one..

your bird room sounds fun.
they change their chosen ones? i didnt know that.
would bandit still be bonded with jer too?
really, some greys take longer to talk?
they are like children arent they?
so will they play people against each other, like kids do their parents?
i have so many questions...

Bird room is fun, our Green wing is the one that is most like a child. But a grey is as smart as a 5 year old, so don't be suprised over the next year, they change alot durning this phase. Feeding them what you eat is fine, eating is a social event for them. We can have up to 4 birds at our table when we sit down for dinner. It has made us eat a lot heathier.. |

As was already mentioned grey are late bloomers. Smokey learned her name around a yar. That and "hello". From their it was mainly imitating noises until around 18 months. Then she took off. She 10 years old now with a phenomenal vocabulary. As for words you don't want them to say. If you hear it ignore it. Don't react to it. The more you react or create drama over it the more they'll repeat it. If he's persistent about a bad word start repeating a work that rhymes with it instead and often they'll switch it (hopefully).

Oh yes, Smoke hated my husband when we first got her. Drew blood anytime he tried to touch her. He was very persistent in just talking to her and interacting with her from afar. After about 2 years of age her loyalties switched and he's now the favored one. I cook, chop veggies, feed, clean, groom, spend my hard earned money on toys etc. and spend more time with Smokey than hubby does overall. She tolerates me. But she LOVES him. But that's okay be cause Pickles loves ME.
