| Ziggy just wants cuddles all the time! |
|
|
Jrmno might think I am just boasting again, honestly not! Since I got Ziggy back from his two day holiday while I had my windows done 6 days ago he doesn't seem to want to play as much and all he wants is to be with me and have scritches. I do try and show him how to play and he does a bit but then is straight back to cuddles. He seemed much more interested in his toys before but doesn't seem to get excited by them now. I want to teach him things but am finding it difficult as he just puts his head down for scritches. I had heard that greys don't want cuddles so much and he is so delightful, steps up well and the little sweetie willingly ambles back to his roosting spot at night, he is very sociable with pretty much any one. I know some of you are probably thinking I am nuts worrying about this little darling but having only experience of my moody anti social sennie I don't know if there is more I should be doing as he doesn't seem to fit any descriptions of any thing i have read about greys. Incase you don't know I have only had him about six weeks and he is now 16 weeks old. Any thoughts? |

Aaaw, so sweet My Grey is pretty afectionate too, especially at night time. She always wants me to pick her up and she'll lie on her back in my arms like a baby and ask for her head to be rubbed.
By the way, my sister's cat's name is Ziggy too Did you name him after Ziggy Stardust? |

I did indeed, I had huge lists of names before I got him home and Ziggy was the most popular with everyone I asked. I was on a bit of an alien/space theme at the time due to him being a grey! I'm not really complaining about the cuddly bit I just want a bit of reassurance that i'm not setting myself up for any future problems. Like everyone here I just want to be sure my bird is as happy as can be. It works quite well because Pico has a limited cuddles span before he gets stroppy and goes back to his perch so he gets his while Ziggy is eating then Ziggy has his cuddles before bed. |

I think I know why you're concerned, you're worried that if you cuddle him too much he might become overly needy in the future as tends to happen with cockatoos? Am I right? I don't think it's something you should worry about, My Grey is close to 2 years old, and I've always been cuddly with her and it's never had a negative effect on her, and she's not at all a demanding or needy bird. I say enjoy the closeness you have with him, because you're right, it's not typical for Greys to be this cuddly. |

Yes enjoy things, because they will change, CAGs are even known to change bonding. This is not like a Too, Toos screate a hormon (sp) that acts like a drug, when you pet them...CAGs are just insecure and need to be reassured...

From one who's grey does not like cuddles, don't worry about it. Just enjoy it.

Thanks folks. He has been playing more these past few days like he did when I first got him so I reckon it may have been a bit of insecurity having been parted from me while I had the windows done. It is a better balance now between cuddles and playtime. |

Oh and I do so enjoy it and so does everyone else, he is so friendly, even to the dog who is terrorised by my sennie! |

Ahhh, Ziggy sounds like one big cuddlebug.. Perhaps it's because he's still young?? I don't know if young birds tend to be more cuddly?
Iago wasn't cuddly AT ALL when he was young. He was way to big for cuddles.. |

It might be his age, perhaps other cag parronts will reckognise this. It does mean we have got off to a great start, he was the cuddliest of the seven I looked at though. The others did get the odd nip in I noticed but Zig has been so placid consistently. The place I got him from are fantastic though all the birds are so well associated and out of their cages most of the time, mixing with a lot of different breeds, apart from the macaws though, these are kept seperately. I wish I had got Pico from them as I am sure I would have had an easier time with him if he had been better socialised in his first 5 months. They are very selective with their breeders too. I still wouldn't swap Pico though, his scizo ways keep me on my toes |

Thanks, although Pico's moodiness is not related to getting Ziggy. He has always been like that! In some ways he has been better since getting Ziggy I think that on the QT he likes the company as he doesn't call me as much when I am out of the room. He seems more settled in that respect. |
