Live and Learn Right?
I relly enjoyed your imput to my post. The funny thing is I did only want 1 amazon. romeo was being hand raised for me when I called the lady who had Cleo to find out why she was selling her amazon (I saw this in the newspaper) She said her daughter had become allergic to Cleo. I said that was so sad and we talked a long time about our birds. I told her that I was trying to talk to as many people as I could who had amazons as I was waiting for mine to be winged. I said good bye and said I hope you find someone who could buy her.
A week later the lady called me and asked if she gave me the bird would I take her then? I told her sure I would and I would give her a good home. We went and got her and she was real sweet. She would step up and watch the dogs playing with their toys and she would talk but like a robot. After about a month of her and Sunny sitting side by side on their tree stand she started wanting to be with him all the time. She tried to come between me and Sunny but Sunny still wanted to be with me when he got the chance. When i would take Cleo she would get all upset so I would have to let her come too. Then the cockatiel got to be the same wanting to be with the both of them so everytime I took one I had to take the other 2.
Right before Sunny died Cleo starte biting more until I saw what I was doing wrong. If I tried to take her and put her in the carrier first (one of the clear carriers) she would bit me almost everytime. If I went and got Sunny first and put him in the carrier then she wouldn't bite. I guess she thought I would take her from Sunny by getting her first. So when I saw that I solved one problem.
Everything was fine until Sunny died. And again I think I did the wrong thing
I went the same day and bought another Sun Conure thinking they would have the same relationship she and Sunny had. When I came home with "Newbe" a 5 month old sun conure she wanted to become his mommy and he wanted me to be his mommy! Anytime I went near Newbe she would try to bite me. If I got him out of his cage and she was in hers she would scream and scream until I got away from Newbe. Well I knew we couldn't live like that so I took her out to the flight cage. I didn't want her to be alone but I didn't know what to do. I would leave her out for several hours so I could work with Newbe then bring her in before I left for work. I had to use a "T" stick because she has bitten me so many times my hands were hurting and had sores on them and they looked so bad.
I would bring her in only after I showed her that Newbe was ther along side of her. She cared about Newbe but he didn't want andy part of her. WEll I didn't want to take Newbe back so I told my husband we would go like this for a while and see what happened. After a month of her screaming I came upon Ramsey at the country zoo down the road. I bought him so she would have company and thank God it worked out. I cried so much over loosing my 6 birds and then I was crying over poor Cleo missing Sunny. I cried for the whole problem I had created by not watching the stove door on the stove! What a mess.
So then Romeo gets to come home to us and I had only Sunny, Cleo and the cockatiel Buddy. It all worked pretty good like that. Romeo use to go out in the flight cage with Sunny, Cleo and Buddy and they had a great old time. Now I can't let Cleo see Newbe or she goes nuts! She and Ramsey will get to have that flight cage to themselves and we are going to build another for Romeo. As for Newbe he wants to stay with me but I think we will build a little something where he and the 2 cockatiels can go for a few hours each day when it is nice weather. So what a web we weave for ourselves don't we
