| Amazon with warty looking feet |

Hi, my name is Stefanie (aka Stella) I joined this group to ask a question (and because I have a bird of my own)
I saw a orange winged amazon the other day (at a pet store) and she looked like she had tons of wart like bumps all over the bottom of her feet. What could this be?

All birds have feet that look somewhat like lizard skin, with bumps but if it is really visable and out of the norm, it could be bumble foot. This usually comes from unclean conditions in the cage, dirty perches, being over weight or improper diet. The foot would be painful and even a little swollen though. It could also be Hyperkeratosis. With this the legs and toes have horny scales. This is caused by metabolic disorders or is hereditary. I hope they have the common sense to take this baby to a vet and get it checked out. Karen |
