Amy's sick  Reply with quote

Amy our red lored amazon has not been her usual perky self and not eating so on New Year's Day we called our vet and took her in for an emergency appointment. He was nice enough to see her New Year's Day. She has a staff infection and he gave her a shot and an antibiotic to take for 10 days. Good news is this morning she ate....and she's much perkier. It was cute as Misty flew in the hospital room she's in(our bedroom) and visited her. Our vet assured us it wasn't contagious. She really had us worried for awhile though.

Oh no! The poor little sweetie Crying or Very sad

I'm glad to hear you caught it right away & she was able to be easily treated. That's great she's feeling better already!
I'm surprised to hear something like that isn't contagious, but VERY good to hear!

Amy appears to be doing a lot better.....back to her old self. She is really hard to give oral medication to. It is too bad she does not like mashed potatoes like the other birds. I'd just squirt it in there. John held her last night and she started screaming bloody murder when I approached with the syringe.... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad and we got to do it 7 more times. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Yeah, I bet it is hard giving her the meds, but at least you're getting them down her. Does she take just one dose a day?

Oh, isn't that the truth!

Keep up the great work with her J & C, I am sure she'll be her normal self soon Very Happy
From what I know about staff infections (only in people), they do take awhile to clear up
