| Blue front BITE HELP PLEASE |
|
|
can anyone help? I have a blue front amazon. I have had him for a year now and he had his first birthday last month. so i have had him since he was a baby. He never used to bite (much) but recently in the last few months when out his cage he will bite you for no reason. I tell him no and he listens and lets go. He will then bite again. This time i will shout NO and he stops again. the third time i put him back into his cage and ignore him. He spends most of his day out of his cage and will let me hold him rub his belly give him kisses and tickles. I dont think the biting is playing because he will growl when he does it. but we could just be sitting there watching tv and he will walk across the settee and bite with no reason atall. At one point he bit so hard he went through my finger nail causing it too bleed. I dont get scared when he comes over to me and i do show my authority but nothing seems to be working..... can anyone help????? |

it needs some training to teach him not to bite. every time he bites you you already tell him not to do it. if he doesn't bite, give him a little reward like a little nut or a sunflower sead.
it might be that he is starting to become in his teenage time. usualy it starts when they are about 2 years old. then they can become like this.
i have 3 amazones and one of them is very agressive to me as well.
you are already giving the good thing that if he is not listening, that he goes back into his cage.
try not to let him climbe on your shoulder. make better rules about when he is allowed to be out. try to distract him when you see that he is about to bite you again. in time it will work, but i guess you will need a lot of pacience with him and courage.
try not to rub his belly, back or wings anymore as these are ergone zones. you excite him then a lot.
just touch his head. to avoid that he sees you as his partner. |

ok I have let him out yesterday and had a really good play with no bites. this morning i went to give him a kiss through the cage and was nearly missing a lip. Never mind i just walked away. let him out this afternoon. and just wanted to have a play ontop of his cage. was happy for me to pick him up and put him back into his cage while i went to the shops. all fingers crossed and thanks for the advice. i will let you know how i got on.
Thank you |

this sounds really great. in the end it will work out well you will see. watch his eyes. amazones always warn you when they start pinpointing with their eyes. it goes very quick.
when you get close to him and you see that the tail is wide and open end the eyes are pinpointing, then he will bite. it is a little trick as well to know him a little better.
when you see him like this just see hello and ignore him. later you can try again.
good luck. |
