Breeding/laying  Reply with quote

Hi !!
I am new to this forum. I just got a bonded pair of blue fronted amazons and I was wondering how long it takes from breeding to egg laying? I know how long it takes for the eggs to hatch but couldnt find anything on how long from breeding to egg laying.
Thanks. Tom !!

Sorry, I know nothing of breeding but perhaps a breeder in your area can help you with these questions or do maybe a google search on breeders of BF Amazons and maybe you could seek info & answers...Good Luck! Pam

Re-Breeding/Laying. (No good answers)  Reply with quote

Well nobody here could tell my how long it takes from breeding to egg laying I finely found out. For Information purposes for this forum it takes about 10 DAYS. Now if someone else ask this question you will know. So store this answer in your (I KNOW FILE). That is why people come to these bird forum to get answers from the experts. If you dont know the answer maybe you should offer to help them look for answers.( Do some research like I did). This is suppose to be a PARROT forum. If this or any other forum cant give any answers, then its not a very good forum.

Is this the best answers anyone gets ?? Answers like this are unexceptable. I believe you could do alot better with your answers.

Let's be nice  Reply with quote

Hello "boatbuddy". I've just come back after being off a few days and noticed your post. Just wanted to let you know that I too don't know how long it takes for your bird to lay an egg. I have 3 amazons and I don't know the answer to your question either.

This is not a forum for everyone we are here to share information if we have knowlege in that area or ask questions and maybe find out the answers. But there is nothing that says we know the answeres to the questions.
If I have a question I put it on several different forums having to do with amazons I suggest you might want to do that. I also joined the National Amazon Club and they now have a chat fourm for questions on Yahoo that you might want to join.

My question to you is why you did not ask the people you bought the birds from how long it takes for the egg laying process? Whenever I buy my birds if there is a question I have I ask the person I buy my birds from.

Tom, these are nice people and there is no reason to be rude just because no one knew the answer to your question. We all have computers and know how to look things up. If we know the answer we will try to help you but I don't think anyone will answer your post if you are going to be rude, that is not nice.

I didn't ask because I'm not breeding my birds . If you bought your birds for breeding then you should have asked. And yes you were rude!

This is really strange, Tom. Let me tell you something: in Holland there exists an internet club founded by a lady who bought an african grey two years ago. She founded the forum because she wanted to know more about her bird. She hoped for many others to share their experiences. Now this internet forum has become a really informative parrot club, where everyone shares their knowledge and experiences. In addition to this, there was also a club about senegal parrots. I owned a senegal at the time, and met the admin of fluffies.org, because she also owns that senegal club. Thanks to that contact I met many people and learned many things. Better than I could have found in any book on parrots. Since a few weeks I do own an amazon BTW, a very old one. No, I don't breed, I just want to give the bird a happy parrot life after at least 45 lonely years in a cage. I wouldn't have been able to answer your question, except from searching on the web and sharing my finds. So you bought a pair of blueforeheads, well, I'm curious about how they're getting along and I hope you will keep us informed. How do they behave toward the keeper for instance? I read something about extremely agressive behaviour from yellow crowned couples ( mine is a yellow crowned) so I'm curious about the blue foreheads!

re:parrot reproductive tract  Reply with quote

As to your question, very difficult to answer for on average it takes about 2-3 days for the egg to pass down the reproductive tract after succesfully mating, but on some parrots depending on the hen it can take up to 10 days. You have to consider the diet the parrot is on as well as enviroment it in.Hope this helps Very Happy (there are many wonderful pages to look at in this site so sometimes it's hard for me to answer all at one time.cheers)

Tom, note that this board is just in its infancy.. There are many registered users over here, but few of them are really active posters.

Breeding/Laying  Reply with quote

Well she laid her eggs within 10 days (2 eggs 2 days apart). She sat on them for about a 1 1/2 weeks then stayed off of them for 2 days so I put them into an incubator . She laid a 3rd egg so I put the other 2 eggs back with her and she is now sitting on all 3 eggs. Hopefully she will continue to sit and hatch them all. Maybe she knows something I dont about the first 2 eggs. (maybe infertile).

My apolagies to all (spelled wrong). I thought this forum was a forum that you could ask the experts and get your questions answered, I guess I was wrong. I guess we are all learning from each other.
I have a habit of jumping into a pool before looking to see if there is water in it.
