Cleo's Plucking  Reply with quote

Oh yall we came back after being gone the weekend (first time leaving birds ) aand come back to see that Cleo has started plucking her leg and chest feathers. I didn't know if Ramsey was doing it so I sat outside to watch them and sure enough she was doing it herself.

I don't know if it was the change of me being gone or something else. She is use to a routine of getting her warm food in the morning and her fruits and veggies so she didn't get that while I was gone. She had plenty of her seed mix and water. My dad came over to see about everybody but I told him not to go into the flight cage because I was afarid if he didn't close the door good the 2 birds would fly out.

It has turned hot her in the panhandle of Fla and this is her first summer out so maybe it is that? Got any ideas on it? I've never had a bird that plucked his feathers so tell me what I should do from things you all have tried. I have plenty of books but I would rather hear from people who have had birds that did this.

I've been busy with a new venture of saving ducks so that has kept me busy. We are building a cement duck pond cause I'm tired of filling up little pools and tubs for the geese and ducks I have. Now that I belong to this rescue thing I guess I could be getting more sometimes Rolling Eyes I'm always getting into saving something, amazons, ducks and geese and elephants Very Happy

Let me hear some suggestions and I'll go now and catch up on some of the posting I've missed. ..Dana

Oh Dana, I think I misunderstood your other message. I thought it was Ramsey who plucked Cleo.
But now I read it's Cleo herself. Terrible news, I know how you must feel.
*hugs*

Is she very bonded to you? Perhaps there is a medical reason for this?
Perhaps dry skin?

Perhaps it's hormonal?

Yes Cleo plucked herself. I guess it could be dry skin this being her first summer out. Is there something I could maybe add to her food that would help?

I don't know about adding things to her food, but Karen adds aloe to the spraying water. She also uses bottled water, I think?
