Hmmm I think someone has a double yellow head but I'm not sure who? Perhaps you could do a search? |

Cheeta,
They are a mixed blessing, I guess that could be said about any bird. With thier short stubie tails, I sometimes wounder how they get off the ground, much less fly the way they do, Sarah flys around in our bird room, darts in and around obistcals, then hovers in mid air for a secound, turns around and does it all again.
An Amazon was my first bird bigger then a Tiel, what a joy she is. But aren't they all. Each bird is it's own. Amazon, Too or Macaw it makes no difference, they are all the same in only one fact, they are all different..

Well, I have always admired their beauty. Our local bird shop here has some birds that came in as a rescue. VERY sad situation where owner kept birds to rip their feathers out as they came in and sell them on ebay to support her drug habit.....arrrhhhhh!!!! One is a Double Yellow Head. He of course is afraid of hands but not afraid if I stood there and talked to him etc. My heart has gone out to him and I've considered taking him in but don't know if I'd be exceeding my capabilities. I currently have a gray, a senegal, 2 budgies and a canary. I know that's not a lot compared to othere on this list (John and Carrie:) but wondered how demanding a bird like this would be. I am the only caretaker for them here and I do work. Don't know if it would be fair to him to take him. Also wondered about the noise level. Are they typical as any other amazon when it comes to noise? But mainly, if I didn't have a lot of time to work on taming him would it be fair to at least give him a big cage, toys, good food, etc. and let him live as he's comfortable?
Thanks,
Robin |

Robin,
This bird will not consume a lot of one on one time. It will take a lot of time to win him over, maybe even as long as one year. The Double Yellow Head is very independent, it likes to be seen and not touched. He will make a good addition to your flock, if given the time to understand that you mean him no harm.
