Wanted to give an update on Willie. He's doing great! We take him in on Monday for his first vet visit. I don't know if he's old enough for the first Poly shot or any blood work. I'll be happy to just know all is well so far. If he gets blood work, we are going to do DNA. If still too young then it can wait! He's 1 month, 17 days old now and so adorable! The first pic is his bro/sis taken 5 days ago. That baby is a few days older than Willie. The 2nd was taken today of Willie. The 3rd I took Tues (the 10th). I was teasing my Mom for buying such a little bird such a big expensive cage! Just kidding, I know he'll enjoy it soon! He's showing yellow on his head! I could go on and on but will shut up now! We are so proud!!

I would consider waiting a couple of weeks more, his amune (sp) system is not developed at this point in his life. He is very likely to pick up something from the Vets Office. Because guess where you take a sick bird. Please check with your Avain Vet before you take him, make sure he undstands how young he is. He is real close to being old enough but a couple of more weeks won't hurt him, and it may save his life....

I am in love all over again. It is hard not to fall for such a baby as you have. I have 4 Amazons, two were babys that we hand feed. The other two were resuce birds that we took in. I think that you to will fall in love with the playful nature of the Amazon...

Please check with your Avain Vet before you take him,
I called our Vet first thing this morning and we decided to wait until he's over 2 months old. The app. was changed to the 6th of Oct. I would love to know he's healthy but it's not worth it if he's too young. I'm just scared I'm not doing something I should be doing. He does seem to be doing fine. |

Bwwahaaaahaha! I just LOVE the pic of little Willie in his new cage!
Look how nice his little feathers are coming in. You're doing a good job. And bless you for doing such a kind thing for your Mom. Looking forward to more progress reports.

You are doing fine. Just keep track of his weight. He will loss about 100 grams, when he starts to wean, so don't paniic. It is normal for him to loss his baby fat in order to fly...
Drop me or Carrie a note if you have any questions..

Got an update on this lil guy. He is growing like crazy. Last Thursday he was at 228 grams and today he's at 298. There are yellow feathers coming out on the top of each wing and I noticed today he has red/dark orange pins coming out where his wings connect with his body. There's gonna be about 1/2 inch of the dark red/orange there. He's putting away 25-30 cc of food every 5 hours. I had to take the thermometer out of his cage, he's picking stuff up and picking at it!! This will tell you how crazy my Mom is about Wille, she ask me if we need to get a mobile to hang over his cage!! She has bought that nice cage but she wants the acrylic cage for trips out in the winter time. Here's a recent pic..

Actualy a mobile is a good idea. It will get him use to things moving over his head. Start work on fileing his toe nails with an emry board. Play with his wings and basicly rub him all over. Under his wings, his breast and so forth..

Today was a very big day for lil Willie and a mixed day for me but wonderful for my Mom. Willie went home today to his Mom. She has been going nuts not having him and I know she can feed him great. I've been taking him down there several times a week working with her. She is nervous about doing everything right but she is going to do fine. I'm a phone call or 20 minutes away and know some wonderful people who will help. When I was trying to sleep last night and couldn't for thinking of taking Willie home, I realized something. I bet GOD has a special place for the few people who love birds and other animals like ya'll do. I bet there's a place in heaven filled with all the critters gone over that "rainbow bridge" just waiting for us to go to. I hope you know how much you help and what it means to these wonderful birds. To all you breeders out there, I have one thing to say!! I can't do it! LOL Never want to again. I feel like my heart is broken with that wonderful creature gone. I miss him!! I know he is in his perfect home (my Mom will see to that!) but I'm going to miss him being here with me to watch and spend time with. Willie goes to the Vet on Monday so I'll have more to tell then. I sure love my Mom!!! This was a job of love that I'm so glad I got to do but was the hardest too!! I'm not sure if it's ok to put this pic on here but I wanted to show these two. My Mom & Willie today.
