| Hello, Amazone keepers please give suggestion |
|
|
Hi birdlovers,
My name is Doniyor. 2 weeks ago I bought Blue Front Amazone...Jakob(male, 4years old ), it is hanfeeded and can say some words(...Jakob) and whistle different melodies. I have seen how former keeper could hold Jakob on his hand. I never kept this kind of big bird before I had only budgies.
Problem.
I have question for people who has second had parrot espesially Amazone.
It seems my Jakob is social enough...although I bought 2 weeks ago he is flying and sitting on my head, talking but problem is when I make closer my hand to him his trying to bite me and gave him to bite me and he is doing slightly not painfull. He is doing it every time when I try to take him on my hand and also escapes sometimes. But unlikely in his cae he is putting his had to the wall of cae and gives me opportunity to pet him.
Please if you know something about this kind of behaviour let me know and any kinf of suggestions.
Thank you in advance |

Hi there, I too have just aquired a b/f amazon, he is 16 and was a hand reared bird but has reverted back to being a little disliking of hands. Dont forget, its only been a short time in your home and everything is new to him and possibly a little scary. Im using the softly softly approach and pine nuts. He does like to be petted through the cage and will let you scratch his head, but always on his terms. He will not allow you to touch him when he is outside of it though. It may tak me a year for him to trust me, so just relax and sit near his cage every couple of hours or so, even if its just to read a book, allow him to see you and get used to you near him im sure with patience and perservearance he will become a cuddly baby once again. |

I have 3 amazones. when we got our first one it behaved like yours. always biting a little. it is to make sure that it is safe to step on it and it will hold it. in time it will stop and he will step on your hand without any biting.
it is still scary for him to have your hand so close outside the cage. so take it slow. put some treats in your hand and let him get used to you little by little without forcing too much. it will be ok |

welcom to the world of amazons!!!!! this is breeding season so he is gonna be moody. next give him time it can take weeks and months sometime years for them to trust you when coming from the only home they have ever known. reason he was letting you don stuff with him in the begining was it was all new and he found you appealing. now he is leaning your house hold and will show some true colors. but dont give up. amazons are wierd because they do things in there own time not yours. talk to him love him give him treats and toys. use a perch to pick him up and get him in and out of the cage with. most big birds get cage aggressive so keep him away from his cage as much as you can. trust me very soon he will call to you and want you to hold him, but be warned amazons are not cuddle birds. when they want to be held they let you know. again congrats amazons are the best. |
