Hi, az
Thanks for the update on your Amazon parrot!
Your Amazon parrot is so lucky to have found you, after having been neglected all his life and experiencing abandonment TWICE already from BOTH his previous owners. He's only been with you for 2 weeks so far, so I think that much of this wary behavior which you are seeing is only to be expected. It will just a lot more time for your parrot to put all his previous negative baggage of neglect and abandonment behind him, but I feel very confident that eventually, he will find trust, companionship and joy in his new home with his new human flock.
I've made some suggestions in another thread (kalu's thread - in the "Behavior" forum) on how we humans (who are predators) can help our parrots (who are prey) feel safer with us. Maybe some of those suggestions could help your Amazon parrot build trust with you as well.
How's your Amazon parrot apart from his wariness/fear issue? How's his general health, feeding, weight and poo? Is he having any other behavioral problems such as screaming, biting or feather-plucking?
What kinds of perches are in his cage? Natural branch perches with intach bark (made from woods which are non-toxic to birds) are best because these branches are more comfortable for the parrot and the bark provides more secure gripping surfaces, so the parrot feels more stable, more secure and his confidence builds.
By the way, what's your Amazon parrot's name?
Sorry to ask so many questions. I'm looking forward to more news about your BEAUTIFUL Amazon parrot!
