Mealy Amazon  Reply with quote

Kitie, I would just like you to know that you have so turned me onto the mealy amazon. I have recently gotten a Senegal and am going to get at least one more bird and have been unable to decide on the type. I saw your pictures of your beautiful mealy and have read as much info as I can find and can honestly say that is the bird that I am hooked on!! Just wondering if you have any websites or any other links that has some more info on the mealy, just seems that I am not finding as much as I would like. Thank you!!

I had written a comment in this thread, but unfortunately it was removed and put in a separate thread. I just wanted to say, that I have a mealy amazon, Leo, staying with us. He is ab-so-lu-te-ly gorgeous, and the most gentle bird that I ever met. I can recommend a mealy amazon to everyone with children who would like to adopt a parrot ( although my other parrots are also very nice with children).

Leo is very gentle, a true "Gentle Giant" except when... he is in LOVE. I do not own him, see. His owner has a Severa Macaw, and Leo fell in love with that bird. He screeched all day long, and bit on a regular base. Lilo, the macaw, who is normally gentle and playful, became even rather agressive toward her owner, and bit her several times. I had contact with a Mealy Amazon breeder, who owns a couple. First he had them in the living room, but they were enthousiastically screeching all day long, and even attack the owner when he came too close. So he put them in a flight in the garden, where they live happily together and breed their own young. So: as a couple, they're not suitable as pets, but as a single bird, in combination with other birds of course ( as long as they don't pair up with another bird) they make great pets! The love between Lilo and Leo is just a fluck case, I believe.

They said they get them about twice a year, I had just been waiting for so long before things got financially stable again that to have to wait again kinda sucks, not to mention I got a little attached to one of the ones they had...but ah well, as my man just said either shit or get off the pot....bahahaha (he's so supportive), should of got him when I had the chance my fault.

Surprised demeter said the "S" word. Bad demeter Shocked

I'm thinking maybe that the birdy for you is out there. Just think it wasn't meant to be. Things always happen for a reason, I think. Keep your chin up and know that your new baby will come to you Wink

And you are probably right about it happening for a reason, I have found that to be so true on many occasions....not to mention I have kinda been eyeing this bronze wing pionus Smile I just think they are beautiful!! We'll see what happens.
