| need info bc i got 2 parrots gave to me |

i just got 2 double yellow headed amazon parrots and i was wanting info on what i can and cant give them fresh fruits and veggie wise. i was also wanting to know if i could ever get them to talk bc they r 83 yrs old in our years. there nails have been long for so long there veins r at the end of there nail is there any thing i could do about cutting them my self. making the bleeding stop is there some thing i could buy for that. plz help me i really need all the help i can get on these birds |

2 DYA's. and 83 years old. That is a lot of years even for an amazon. Watch for the very same problems you would except for an 83 year old person. Thier joints are bad, so they will move a little slower. The more active you can keep them the better off they will be.
Amazon have a tendancy for over weight problems. Watch thier weight real close, weigh them twice a month. I would try to get them on a strick pellet diet, with lots of fresh vegs. Basiclly what you eat will be fine. DO NOT give them seeds as a regular part of thier diet. Give them a limited amount of seeds as a treat from your hand only.
Talking may or may not happen, my Amy talked up a strom at her previous owner, but I have had her for almost 2 years and I have never heard her say a word. Go figure... Just keep talking to them like you would a three year old and hope. DYA are good talkers. But worry about thier heath and the other things will come along fine.

This may take a little while you may have to mix pellets in with what they are currently eating and slow add more pellets as you reduce the seeds. It may take a month or two to get them changed over.. |
