|
Hi all, I am new to this site and in great need of help: Newly adopted "snoopy" aprox 5 years old, seems to not dislike but hate women! Hubby can do anything to him..........Me OH YIKES Is it possible to get to to have a new train of thought? Snoopy will allow me to touch his head sometimes when no MEN are in site though. He is a HOOT of a bird, talks up a storm. LOL always telling me "Please take Snoop outside LOL LOL
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi!
Welcome here, I hope you'll enjoy your time here.
I am sure other members can help you with this.
I would like to ask: Are Snoopy's wings clipped? This might help in training him..
Please tell us more about Snoopy!
What kind of amazon is he or she? |

His tail clipped? I was wondering why you think that?
What a talent! I am surprised he learned it that fast! Congrats!
Would it be possible for you to work with Snoopy in another room? (One that he doesn't know yet?)
You can put him on a t-stand and have him step up onto a perch.
In this way, it'll be much easier to transport him to his t-stand in the future for further training.
(Please don't forget to praise a lot when he does what you want: Step up onto the perch) |

Hi Monbecca
Welcome to the forum.
Firstly let me apologies for the long post...
secondly can I ask what sort of Amazon it is? Is it a boy or a girl? Just curious.
I hear that Amazon isn't the best of companion bird sometimes. They can be very aggresive and possessive of their 'chosen one' . I'm not saying this to discourage you or anything. But just want you to keep that in mind when you train him again to like women. I'd say try what Sue's told you, and find a neutral room.
Like you've noticed, Snoopy will come to you and behave as such when there's only you and him. Well I think that may be a very important key. From my experience with my cockatoo (yes I do realise that have quite a different personalities) who used to hate my mother, it is very vital that you don't have another person in the room with you and have him interact with you only. You see, when I was at my parent's place awhile back, Apollo would attack any one that're not his mommy or daddy. But I had to bite the dust and leave Apollo with my mum when a family trip came up with my in laws. He wasn't a happy chappy lets just say when I left him there. well to my knowledge when I came home 4 days later, Apollo was quite friendly with my mum. Although he was still a little apprehensive of mum.
I just came home from a weekend away, and for the first time I saw Apollo asking my mum for a cuddle while we were standing right there. Which was quite a surprise really coz he didn't do that before. he'd let her pick him up, scratch him but never a cuddle! So I'd say give the neutral ground a try and have only you in the room with him while you work with him. And yes you'll need a lot of patient!! Love and patience will eventually win him over. Good luck. |
