| orange-winged or yellow crowned |

I am a former owner of a double-yellow head. I would like to get another one. The DYH was a male, he got kind of nasty when he reached sexual maturity, but I loved how silly he was. Not a bad talker, but that's not important. I've heard yellow-crowns and orange-winged are a lot more mellow, but are they just as silly???? I have two- step daughters (13 & 10) and I would love for them to interact with it. Any help me out with, ideas, opinions. I've researched on the internet but they never dive into the personality. Is there another kind of amazon I should be looking at??
I'd appreciate any help!

Are the yellow crowned amazons those amazons with the little yellow area on the front of their face, just above the beak?
If so, perhaps LaSignoraMusica can help you out a bit! |

Beth, may I suggest getting an older adopted amazon. That way you can already tell its personality. Any bird can change once it hits maturity. I don't think you can determine that by the type of bird you get. Also, males in many species have a tendency to be a little more agressive when they hit maturity. Maybe you should look into getting a female. I have adopted two of my three two's and it was the best thing I ever did. They are both sexually mature. One is a male(6 yearsold) and a female(15 yearsold). They are pretty well set in their behaviors and little quirks as far as hormonal issues go. Karen |
