| Talking Up a Storm |

My Romeo is having the best time talking to the little wild finches outside his window. He calles them over like this "Come mere little bird, step up, good boy Romeo" It is so funny cause it's just what I tell him He gets to talking and I can't help but laugh listening to him. He has brought me so many smiles since I have had him He's not yet 1 year old so i guess I am in for a lot the next few years from what I hear. I sure do love him and hope I have him a long time.
I heard my orange wing outside talking this morning. She talks about "5,000 birds and ball players". I don't know where she got that. Of course the one thing I want her to forget she keeps saying " My birds, my birds what happened" The days following the deaths of my 6 birds I must of said that a thousand times and I guess she picked it up from me. I wish she would forget it as it hurts so much to hear that.
Ramsey the one I got from the zoo has not said anything that I know of. He whistles but I never hear him speak. Bless his heart he had a terrible life in that place, I hope he is happy to be with us now... |

Hello! this my first time using this forum, so please be patient!
We are new proud parents of a One year + 3 month old Amazon. She is by far the best thing that has ever happened to us! (after meeting my husband, of course)
Anyway, she "Mayzie", has been saying "Hello" for months, but no sign of any attempt at new words. She is constantly making new sounds of her own. Should this be an encouraging sign?
Mind you, if she never learns any new words, we are already blessed beyond our dreams.
I appreciate any thoughts you might have, if you find the time.

Hi Cindy welcome to this forum!
I don't have any experience with Amazons, but I have an African Grey which are known to be the best talkers, and I've read that they usually don't start talking clearly until after a year old, so it could be the same for an amazon? Perhaps your Amazon will now start picking up more words.
You and your husband sound like such loving parents to your fid I wish every bird owner was like you.
I hope you enjoy your time on this forum, there's lots of knowledgable people here that just LOVE talking birds, so please stick around! |

Hey Dana,
So good to hear about Romeo and his talking antics to the wild finches outside!! Would love to be there to listen to it. He IS having the best time isn't he talking away!! Those fids, don't they just always somehow manage to put a smile on our face? I just love it!!
I am still very sad to hear you talk about the tragedy you had. Hopefully one day your orange wing will totally forget about that, and then you don't have to keep going back to it. {{{Hugs}}}
I'm glad to hear that Ramsey are doing well with you. I'm sure he's 1 million times happier at your place than he was at the zoo no doubt!! How can he not be happy where he's at? He's so very lucky to have come to you. Oh and at least he's whistling, that's a good sign of a happy bird. .... not all birds speaks, so may be he's one of them?
Take care

Hey Cindy
Welcome to the forum... And oh don't worry about it... we are all new to the forum at some point in time, so really, we know what it feels like to be new.
Mayzie sounds like a nice little amazon. I am not familiar with amazon either, but from my experience with my cockatoo, he's speaking, but not all very clearly. He also makes up noises, and to my surprise, they usually turn into a word or something else that I'm teaching him.
His latest conquer in learning the human sound is the wolf whistle and the whistle that we do to get the dog to come.. well he's combine the two together!! Cheeky little thing I tell ya. |

Hey to Cheeta and Shirin!!
And of course all my other friends of fluffy friends.
I meant to thank you days earlier than this for responding so graciously and quickly to my new mom jitters. I own a waterfront restaurant (oyster bar), and we've been real busy. don't worry, I know thank-you's aren't necessary. This will be the only one.
When I realized that two members of the "A" team had been the one's who made me feel so welcome, I was agog! I haven't seen them all yet, but you're homepages are incredible!
I'll hopefully get my elementary school quality one done by the end of summer. We've been taking her boating with us, and my husband loves to garden, so we're starting a collection photos of her there.
Too long, I know. I'll get the hang of it.
Bye!
