| Watery Stools |
|
|
I just rescued a Yellow Naped Amazon, 8 years old. I noticed his stools are watery and we are feeding him the same diet that he had been eating but
added some fresh fruit. Is it something to be concerned about? Please reply..
added some fresh fruits. Is this something to be concerned about or is he just nervous from being in a new environment. Please reply... |

I was wondering how watery his stools are? Is it diarrea?
Or can you clearly tell there's a 'wormy' thing in the liquid part? |

The stools are getting a little more solid now. Maybe he needed to adapt to his new environment...thank you anyway. Judi |

| Hi Judy |
|
|
Just wanted to say hi and I have a 1 year old yellow nape I alos have 2 orange wings that were adopted. Ramsey I adopted from a little country zoo down the road and I was all worried about a feather problem he was haveing. Feathers looked dull and one was sticking out and looked like it would hurt..(You can see him on my homepage on Fluffies) I adopted him in January and that feather has finally fallen out. When I picked it up it was large on the quill and did look like he had a hard time getting it out. I had asked if I should take him to the vets and get it pulled but different ones said to wait and see and sure enough it fell out.Hi dropping looked runny too but once I got him on a better diet the feathers and the stools look normal.
Good luck. Dana |

I can say similar things about the stools of my adopted amazon. When I first met him, he was fed the same food as his human. So he ate bread and cheese, sausage and other meat, potatoes, veggies, and every day his bowl was filled with sunflower seeds, mainly white. His owner told me that she put a cutting-board in his cage, because the droppings were so acid, that they damaged the metal of the cage. Well, they were a bit watery, and dark green. In four days I made him change his diet to Harrisson's juvenile and HPC pellets, in combination with a biological fruit/nut mix with dried banana, coconut, papaya, apple, rosehips and several berries, various nuts and pepita seeds. In the morning he gets a piece of apple and twice a week a palmnut. The stools changed from dark green and watery to brownish solid droppings, well rounded with a nice white-isch and a normal watery part. ( I'm used to studying droppings since I was a small child!)
His droppings look the same as Tabu's now. An eastern rosella who is staying temporarily in my house to recover/get trained had the same change in stools. |

What's the name of that mix you are talking about with the fruit etc?I want to make a different mix for my amazons and tahat sounds like a good start?
You sound like me at the nursing home when we have to report to the nurse about the type of stools from residents My gosh how all these things sound alike don't they
If I could get it right I would send a picture of Ramsey's feather too. I keep all of the large feathers that my birds molt out. don't ask what I am gonna do with them I just keep them, like parents keeping baby teeth from their kids or locks of hair from their kids first hair cut.
I have puppy teeth, kitten teeth and even teeth from my horse when their baby teeth fell out, I know I'm nuts |
