| What kind of feed? |
|
|
Romeo doesn't like the new feed I bought him. He is picking out just certain things and leaving a lot in his bowl. I am giving him lot's of veggies and fruit so I can make sure he is getting pleanty to eat. I need a food that has everything in it that is good for amazons. I had mixed some up a few months ago but all of that is gone now. I would like to get a certain brand and just stick with that. What do you all use? Dana |

Hi Dana.. I don't live with an amazon, but I think the people here feed their amazons harrison pellets. Though I don't know which ones? I think they start with high potency first? |

I agree with Sue, you should read throught the harrison's handbook:
http://www.harrisonsbirdfoods......ndbook.pdf
They recommend to start Amazons on high potency course. |

I bought pellets and mixed it in with all my birds food and everybody left them. Made me so mad cause I ordered them and the cost of shipping and all was like 50 something, then they don't want it. I still have it mixed in but they just leave it. Anything else I can use they might like? Dana |

Hey Dana,
This might not work for your bird, but you might like to give it a try though.
Apollo didn't like any sort of pellets to start off with... then I decided to give it to him mixed with oatmeals and thick veggies soup. I leave the pellet overnight in the bowl so it can get all mushy and stuff... then I feed it to Apollo. Because he loves his oatmeals so much, he had taste of the pellet that was in it. Over time, I increased the amount of pellets i had in the bowl. and now, he eats the pellet dry!! I think once Apollo realised that the pellet tasted ok, he didn't mind eating them anymore.
do you give your bird anything warm and sort of liquidy that you can put pellets in as well? Just wondering may be you can do what I did that's all.
Take care
I hope you find something that you bird will eat.

I feed Chaquita "Pretty Bird" which is specially formulated for the type of bird you have and their particular diet needs. I have an amazon also. Since I only got Chaquita about 2 months ago, I am still introducing it to her previous food which consisted of mostly seeds. Amazons need a low fat diet because they tend to get fat leading to a fatty liver disease. Seeds and nuts are high in fat and should only be given in moderation or as a treat. |

danabird, Pretty Bird is the brand. It's called Species Specific. Go to prettybird.com and click on "species specific". It's made in the USA so there shouldn't be any problems ordering it. |

Thanks i did and I asked if I could have a sample before I buy. One of the other companies does that so I can try it and see if Romeo will eat it. Thanks for the information...Dana |

I just don't think he is going to eat a pellet so is there a seed diet that maybe has a few pellets in it that you all use? I ordered pellets (forget from where) and he and the sun conure left all the pellets so that was a waste of money. Is there a mix that has the peanuts, bannana chips, seeds, veggies etc. that someone can recommend? Dana |

Oh Dana don't give up on pellets!!! Converting my lovebirds to pellets was like one of the HARDEST things I've ever done (took over 6 months of persistence), and I too threw out bags and bags of EXPENSIVE pellets that they refused to even touch But now I feel it was worth it, because I feel so much better knowing that they're getting the nutrition they need |

Thanks for the info Sue, I wasn't aware. I guess I'll have to maybe try something different since I don't have Chaquita completely converted to Pretty Bird. |

yikes, Pretty Bird is the brand of pellet I give to my lorikeet! I feel so bad for paying all this money to get it and training my bird to eat it when it's bad for him . I guess it's back to dry mix for him. Is there a website that talks about the dangers of different pellet brands in more detail than what's in that topic by any chance? |
