which amazon?  Reply with quote

I know someone that is considering adopting either an older,..about 5 yr old male?(not sure if he is actually a he or not)lol,..Yellow nape,..the breeder said this bird is the larger yellow nape, from Honduras?.From what I have read,..aren't they from there anyway,..???..Now what that means is I am not sure,...but I am going with her to ck out the "chemistry" of her & this YNA,..or should she wait to get a baby DYH & handfeed it out,....I will be helping her..alot,...with this,...too,..lol,..If someone could give me some ideas/suggestions,...I am kind of "leary" because of some of the detailed history on this bird,...& some other things,..like the cost of the bird & all,...some things are so "reasonable",..or "flexible",...that they tend to make you wonder,....& the breeder had a male YNA,..awhile back that had been a breeder,...& this sounds like it might be the same bird that she is trying to pass off as "pet quality",...& This poor lady can't afford this either emotionally,..or financially,....& last but not least,...putting the poor bird thru more,...changes,,...for maybe nothing,....Anyway,...IF anyone has anything to add except cking him out,...& take it from there?,..Thanks,,..tnlh

Let me understand this, A YNA, 5+ Years and a breeder?

1. YNA can not breed until 5+ years, but can not be counted on until 7+ years.
2. At 5 years Thier hormones are ragging for the first time.... YNA are aggressive by nature. and a Male at 5 years... Spring time.... LQQk out...
3. They do make great talkers, Ours is teach our CAG better and faster then we can. They are about the same age.

Maybe this lady like so many people buy a YNA without understanding them first. Then when they get 5 years old... they go crazy. and the sweet lovable thing they bought is FRANKINSTIN's Monster....

If you have a lot of patience. and don't mind getting bit (a little hard sometimes) these guys will keep you enterained for hours. Thier carzy antics always keep us laughing...

The Double head would be the choice I would make, but wait until it is weanee completly, don't take chances. We have compont breeders and a good Avain Vet for support. Or we would not try it. Remember patience is the key to all things with bird. If she want a DYH make sure she spends alot of time studing the Amazon's nature. They can be amazing birds. But they are a handful this time of the year..

i have a YN Amazon female and a DYH Amazon male and either one are very nice parrots to parent no one can really tell you exactly what they will be like but Amazons do have certain traits that they are likly to exhibit. now i totally agree a 5 yr old amazon male is probally going to be difficult to a first time parrot parent. all amazons as with people have their own personallitys and you cant judge a specific specis by just one parrots behaviour hope whatever choice you make is good for you and the parrot.
