| Cockatiel with cage |
|
|
I 've been thinking about the Cockatiel's that l give away an their cages the new owners have to get.Even though l tell them the more room the better, now l have thought of an idea that l will try.I'm going to tap into it (the market)and buy cages for the Cockatiel that l give away (other than Gus's pet shop). For the price of the cage, they will get there new Cockatiel as well, unless they have one already. For when the young Cockatiel leaves my house, it is already used to it's new cage(home)making it easier to settle and then the new owners can enjoy it's personality sooner.Trial an error l call it but unless l try l'll never ever know. For l have experianced when l lend my cages to new owners until they look and find a cage, it takes time and the transition between cages when they get one, they tell me the Cockatiel misbehaves so then l have to tell them it will take a day or two for it to settle again. At the same time l know my young Cockatiel is in a large cage so l don't have to worry about it being in a cage to small |

That is such a great idea greg!!!! i know if you buy them in bulk you get them so much cheaper too I got toby & astirxs cage from ebay for only $120 and I saw it at the markets advertsed as a cookatoo cage (no way!!!) for 200 and at bird city for 250 so it would be well worth it. Its true the bigger the better i havnt been able to keep astix out of tobys cage (i have had him a a budie/tiel cage till he settled in, and all he wants to do is get in tobys so after a few visits over the last few days he had his first full day and night last night and they are fine, wonderful and he is so much more relaxed now!!!! i am sure it will do wonder for the settling in of a new bird to new owners plus they wouldnt have to shop around and give 5 different oppinions from everyone they talk too. i also think NOT supplying them with dowel and only branched would be a good idea too. I have so many freinds who think you have to use it because its in the cage (when they buy it) or thats what the pet shop uses.#### kellie |

Thank you Kellie, good to see you know where i'm coming from, also the dowel is a no,no in my opinion as well. For natural branches excercise their feet and avoid foot problem's in birds.I also have branches in the new cages designed to suit the Cockatiel's need not look's,so there's another bonus that i haven't mentioned.I 'm not buying them bulk at the moment for i don't won't to be left with a room full of cages,l'm experimenting at the moment, for the Cockatiel comes into the equation first.Dowel in my opinion look's great, but the tiel need's to excercise it feet and you can't do that on a smooth even sized surface all the time, were as branches come in different shape and size's, so the tiel need to move it's feet around to get around so every time it hop's or jumps without knowing it's gives it's feet a workout Glad to hear astrix and toby are doing well keep me imformed on the progress,an good to see astrix has settled in well also Branches will rarely be sold in cages at pet shop's for the risk of people buying the product worried about disease on the branches and goverment regulations.human behaviour l call it...more worried about themselves than the bird they are buying..but that's just my opinion..Anyway thanks for your support in this, for l personnally feel strongly in this too..cheers |

Oh see I dont even think the dowel looks good I think it looks silly I love the look on the gum branches in the cage I think it looks so pretty the diff colours and shapes not to mention texture i think it looks natural which I know is silly considering they are caged and all but you know!!!???? I also try to get diff types of branches like from a stringy bark and paper bark or one with gum nuts or pods are the best, not only are they good for there feet but they smell good and are the best toy as well i am watching toby and astrix right now oth chewing on knots/knobs and peeling off bark!!!! basicly making a mess.....LOL got to love it |
