I don't know how prices are dictated... the Slender Billed are way more rare here than MM2, but MM are twice as expensive. Maybe it's all in the demand. I think more people ooh and aah about the looks of MM more than the SB.
Julie
I'm not too sure on how dear the MM2s are over there, but I do believe the black cockatoos do cost quite a bit. but yes it would be about that..
Currently, the conversion rate is $1AUD = $0.84USD... so I think it works out that it'd cost about $60.500 for a greenwing. crazy huh! but I can't see how it could cost $20,000USD for black cockatoo in the US.. they are around $1,500 - $2,500AUD here. I guess it is about the locations...
I'm surprise that the SB is cheaper than the MM2, but I guess you might be right that MM2 has a much more exotic look than the ESB. Considering a lot of people thinks that they are kinda 'ugly'... but I do love the ESB.. but in honesty, I used to think that they look kinda 'off' with their extra long beak.. but those ones are generally birds that doesn't get the beak files down. Apollo would look 'ugly' too if his top mandible doesn't get filed down every so often. |

I'd love a Greenwing, or a hyacinth.. hehe, but hyacinth aren't available for sale anywhere in Australia I don't think.. hehe.. so I'll have to settle for a greenwing if I ever get the money to get one!!! They are afterall my 'DREAM' bird!!!
Wow Bih, I always thought you didn't have a violent nature, but now I start to doubt things!
So green wings are your favorite birds? Hmmm.. Zazu isn't too fond of greenwings.. ( http://www.fluffies.org/en/flu.....;start=123 , second last pic from bottom) |

Ya know, its taken me quite a bit to decide on this one (at first I thought I didn't really had a dream bird), but to be honest, one day I would love to get a galah of my very own.. just to remind me of home! Very selfish I know.. but thats why its my dream bird!
We saw a pair at the bird store a long time ago, and they were sooooo expensive. I don't think hubby would be too keen about getting one though, he's not sure about the colour And I'm usually all against pink, but I just adore galahs |

Oh Sue, I'd do anything for macaw!!! ANYTHING!! lol... to be honest, I don't mind which ever macaw as long as it's a 'giant' macaw and not a mini ones.. not that I have anything against the mini macaw, I just LOVE BIG BIG birds!! B&G would do me nicely if I could have one.. you don't see them as pets here very often as they are much too expensive to get.
Oh that pic is funny!! and I love the video.. hehe... what a funny B&G... hehe.. I feel for Zazu.. having to deal with all those macaws! |

Tell your hubby that lots of men have pink galahs! I am not crazy about pink either, but with birds it's different. I never really like red, but I love my Gryffin who is red! |

Well, back home in Australia, you could get one for so cheap... it would make you sick to pay
at least
$1500 for one here

Wow Bih... you will do ANYTHING!! I guess that means you want one real bad!
You just need to move to the US... Blue and golds are everywhere here.
They are the most popular large macaw. You can get one for about $1,200 USD

Well, almost anything.. hehe... there's no way I'd leave Australia (a land of beautiful wild cockatoos and parrots)... hehehehe... but I wish so much that I could get a B&G here for less than $2000AUD! not a chance... oh well.. It is such a pity that we can't import birds into Australia. that would be nice if I could do that.. hehe... I'd be importing a lot of birds!! LOL.. I'll drive myself bankrupt I think if importing was allowed.. hehe |

If I were in Australia, I don't think I'd leave to come here either! What amazes me is why they didn't import more Australian Cockatoos into the US when it was possible? The Rose Breasted are fairly common, but that is the only Aussie Cockatoo that is. Even our Bare Eyed are the smaller New Guinea type.
I also dream of what other birds I want, but it is only a dream. I have to stop now. I seriously feel like my hands are full now with 3. I love having 3 though, that is the perfect number for me. In the future, if my mom's birds are still alive when she is no longer able to care for them, I will have 2 more. They are a Bourke's and Princess of Wales, so they will not be demanding of time and attention, but still the feeding and cleaning of 5 in the house is very hard and time consuming in my opinion.
Did you notice that between my mom and I, we have 3 out of 5 Australian species?! |

well I think there are more AUstralian cockatoos in the US... The greater sulphur is an Australian species though I think you can get them in indonesia as well?? or was that New guinea? not sure. and also the Major mitchells, though not as common in the US... I think you probably do get the BE2 of the Australian subspecies just not as common may be? I think they are a bit smaller than I originally thought.. hehe.. and also you also have the black cockatoos (not the palm type), but I do believe you have the red tailed, or the white tailed, or the yellow tailed black there? not very common again of course.. even in the galahs, you have both the subspecies, but the most common subspecies is the Western galah, rather the Eastern Galah...
Oh i love Princess parrots.. they are simply gorgeous!! I love their colours. and their calls. hehe.. so gorgeous.
bourke, I love them too, they just look like a pink budgie!! LOL.. |

The Greater SC are here, but rare and expensive. The MM are uncommon but not rare, though very expensive. The Eastern SB are very rare and moderately expensive. I don't think we have any Apollo's here at all? The Black toos, forget it... they are so expensive that if you do find them, they cost as much as a car. Black Palms are about $15,000 I think. Them and the Hyacinth Macaw (usually about $9,000) are status symbols here in the US.
The Indonesian Sulfur Crested are the Medium, Lesser, Citron. I think the Triton too? They all look just like the Greater, but smaller.
Yes, we usually see the Western Galah here... the Eastern are brighter and prettier in my opinion, and you do see them sometimes.
The Indo Toos are by far more common here. The U2 and Goffin's especially.

Really? the greater sulfur are rare there? Wow, I thought there were more common that's all. I am part of too community and it seems that a few people there have the GSC2 in the US.. hmm may be they are Triton? I have heard that the Triton are he same size as the GSC2, if not bigger?!?! I used to always want a GSC2... they cost around $800 here for one. the most expensive of the white/pink cockatoos available in Perth. I've seen them sold for $1250 here too.
I have heard alot about the G2, M2, and the U2... I guess that is very common in comparison to the the Australian cockatoos there.
I like the Eastern Galah as well, but sometimes their eyes gives me the hibby jibby with the wart like looking lumps... LOL... my mum has an Eastern Galah, to see him, go to my diarypage... I think its title 'my other pets' or soemthing along that line... I think.. hehe |

Poor you, you truly were born on the wrong side of the planet. No macaws for you I think? Or you should win the lottery?
Blue and golds have very nice characters. They're such puppies.
Video? I'll have to go and check it out. Didn't know about the video. It's been a long time since I've seen that page. |
