| Conure Laying Eggs Not in the Nesting Box |
|
|
I thought that i had two boy conures but much to my surprise i came down one morning and there was an egg on the bottom of their cage . 5 days ago we put nesting box and other various nests in the cage but she keeps laying the eggs on the bottom. She has layed a total of 3 eggs on the bottom of her cage and i would appreciate any advice on what i should do.
Thanks, Libby |

Are the eggs fertile? If so, do you want them to breed? |

I do not know if the eggs are fertile and do not know how to tell. And i do not know how to stop them from breeding other than separating them. |

Ok, in order to find out if the eggs are fertile, take one in a dark room, and hold a flash light to it. After the second day you should be able to see a dark spot forming in the egg, and by the 3rd day you should be able to see blood vessels forming. This is of course if they are sitting on the eggs. If they're not, then the eggs won't develope.
If you don't want babies, then take the eggs as soon as they're laid, and replace them with dud eggs. You can get plastic or wooden ones at any arts and craft shop. This way your hen will stop laying while she is brooding the eggs, and you don't have to seperate the 2 birds. |
